Lawmakers should not have guns in Statehouse

EDITORIALS

One of the first things the Indiana General Assembly should do when it resumes is ban guns from the Statehouse.

Some lawmakers are carrying guns onto the floor of the Indiana House and Senate, according to a Fort Wayne newspaper's survey.

The Associated Press quoted one gun-toting legislator, Rep. Matthew Whetstone, R-Brownsburg, as saying:

"If someone opens fire from the balcony, I want all the guns I can shooting back. Unless, of course, there are school kids up there."

1. CO, I agree with you. The easiest solution is to ban guns in all govt.
buildings. There is absolutely no reason for anyone including law enforcement officers to worship the evil Gun-Demon by carrying guns after they are banned.

That way, criminals can do their work unafraid.

2. they didn't say cops - who after all are trained
They were talking about numb-nuts gun freaks who are more likely to shoot themslelves or bystanders than do any good in an emergency.

And what the hell is there to steal in the Indiana legislature? - all the major crime is being done on the council floor anyway.

"some rob you with a gun, some rob you with a fountain pen"

There's thousands more like this but I have no time to dig them out. Just google "bad cops" "Cop accident" etc.

7. You're absolutely correct, of course...
But there's an element here who seem to think their mission in life is to shout loudly that guns had nothing to do with any shooting that goes on..

Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 02:25 PM by rusk2003
Did we forget what happened in New York City City Hall during a Council Meeting a few weeks ago when some nut case with a gun stormed in city hall a started to shoot up the place. And there are in a high profile catagory they should have guns at all times.
