AUSTIN - A man was charged with child endangerment after his 16-month-old daughter ingested cocaine when he wasn't looking, had a seizure and stopped breathing, police said.

Her father, Raymond Montelongo, 24, faces up to two years behind bars if convicted of leaving a small bag of cocaine within her reach.

After the girl ingested the cocaine, Montelongo tried to help her by placing her in the bathtub, according to a probable cause affidavit. He flushed the empty cocaine baggie down the toilet, the affidavit said.

The girl's mother, Samantha Lopez, told investigators that she arrived home to find Montelongo bathing their daughter. Lopez said she ran outside and flagged down a police officer after the baby stopped breathing during the bath, according to the affidavit.
