The workings of the corrupt gun lobby viewed in close up...
"Something embarrassing has happened to the Wisconsin gun lobby and they hope you don't find out before they push through the concealed weapons bill, AB 444.
Their most prized intellectual, John Lott Jr., has been caught lying, impersonating a woman on the Internet, and engaging in academic misconduct. These are not ad hominem attacks; they relate directly to his gun research. More important,, his landmark work on concealed weapons has now been replicated and found to be in error. This has all come to light within the past six months.
His most ardent supporter on the Internet was a former graduate student named Mary Rosh. She knew his work intimately and defended it courageously. She claimed that Lott was the best college teacher she ever had. She identified herself as a 5'6", 114-lb. female in high heels who needed a concealed gun to protect herself from the bad guys.
The problem is that Mary Rosh never existed except in the twisted fantasy world of John Lott.
The last piece of bad news for Lott and the NRA comes in an authoritative new book from the Brookings Institution, "Evaluating Gun Policy" by Jens Ludwig and Philip I. Cook. It reports that researchers from Stanford and Yale just replicated and extended Lott's main study and found that it was deeply flawed and that he was mistaken in his interpretation of the data.
They found that more concealed guns will not reduce crime, and, if anything, may actually increase it. This represents a huge shift in the gun wars because it strips the gun lobby of its most legitimate argument for concealed weapons. You better believe they want to hush this up. "
