Gun Expert Shot During Safety Class
"An instructor in a gun safety class was wounded by a student unloading a handgun, authorities said.
Gary Kassel, 56, of Syracuse, was unloading a .40-caliber Glock handgun and did not realize there was still a round in the chamber when he pointed the gun at the cement floor and pulled the trigger. The bullet ricocheted off the floor and struck Sacco. "

Remember, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will provide this much unintentional comedy....

1. They were -licensed- handgun owners!
"The students were licensed handgun owners taking a class that would certify them to be armed security guards, D'Eredita said. "

4. And the third rule...
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 10:18 AM by slackmaster
Muzzle control: Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.

If he'd followed any ONE of those rules the injury would not have occurred. He was pointing the gun at the floor, but you have to also consider where the bullet will go if it ricochets.

5. Benchley
Anybody being shot, accident or not, is not a comedy. Finding comedy in anybody's pain is sick and perverted.

15. Oddly enough,
I don't see how that cartoon would be against the NRA. A PAC, by its nature, is going to be against laws that restrict its interests. If there were laws that an enviromental group were against, would that group not also try to "get rid" of those laws? I don't see the humor in pointing out what a PAC does.

18. Glock vs Sig
not to hijack this thread , but this story shows why I wasn't 100% comfortable with my G27. The whole dry-fire-before-dissassembly thing always creeped me out, no matter how often I checked the chamber.

My 3-week old Sig 239 requires you to lock the slide back/chamber open before you can dissassemble it - and with no prerequisite dry-firing. I feel much more comfortable with this weapon as a home/CCW firearm for this and other reasons. But I still kept the G27 for posterity (my first privately owned firearm).

23. whacked
only outlaws will provide this much unintentional comedy....

So if that's funny to you then perhaps you like this story too?

"Shortly after a Philadelphia policewoman passed around a loaded handgun among students during show-and-tell at a Germantown charter school, the weapon accidentally discharged yesterday afternoon, grazing a 10-year-old boy in the face."

"Johnson said the officer removed the clip from the weapon and then passed the gun among the children."

"Carter-Moragne "allowed the children to handle it," Johnson said. "When she attempted to place the magazine back into the Glock, her gun accidentally discharged."

Accidently my butt.. keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

"Even if a clip, which contains the bullets, is removed, a round can remain in the chamber unless it is taken out separately."

28. I was just getting sick of it.
I apologize to all here who had to witness that spectacle, but I was tired of the absolutely worthless posts that a certain frequent poster of this forum was making, and causing the issues to be lost.

I feel that the posters in the J/PS forum are an intelligent bunch who have made their minds up on the RKBA issue through interaction in their daily lives and through discussions here at DU. I, for instance, have completely changed my mind about C Heston after I learned of his comments on condoning lynch-mob violence.

I think that most people here in J/PS, on both sides of the RKBA issue, when presented with solid evidence contrary or in compliment to, will alter their positions as thinking, intelligent adults do.

Although I am probably pissing against the wind here, I propose that we dispense with the "gun-nuts/gun-grabber" names and get to discussing the issue. No more dismissive "Cry me this" and "Pout over there" comments. Let's look at the issues, talk about them, come to some sort of conclusion, and move on.

2004 is right around the corner and the RKBA issue is going to be right in front. It would benefit the Democratic party to appear cohesive on the matter, not derisive with our own members.

What about the frequently repeated claims that anyone who supports any level of gun control does so only because of "fear of guns" etc.? Huh? :eyes:

You know, acerbic, all you had to say was "Yes, let's get past the childishness (on both sides) and discuss..."

Are you incapable of even that?

I'm only pointing out that when you're "suggesting that EVERYBODY get past that quibbling bullshit" and show examples of ONLY comments by those who disagree with you as "quibbling bullshit", you are in reality NOT "suggesting that EVERYBODY get past that quibbling bullshit" but simply trying to pretend and claim that ONLY those who disagree with you are "quibbling bullshit". Duh.

Everybody means everybody. There are those on the pro-side who are equally as guilty. Fortunately, most of them are one-timers who get tombstoned before they get out of hand.

BTW, do we have tombstones in DU2...not that I want to find out firsthand or anything. :-)

36. This is one of the cutting edges of the rightwing assault on civilization
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 10:15 PM by billbuckhead
The right says, "More guns=less crime" at the individual level, at the handgun and assault rifle level, but when the big boys asses and money is at stake no one, gets a nuke or WMD's without USA government approval, whether it it's Iran or Joe Local Gunwacko. Even at the factory level, RepuKKKes usually don't allow gunners into their factories with guns. The right wing has a lot invested in a promiscuous gun rights culture, but never when it comes home to roost at the level of the sacred bottom line. It's all street theatre and Kulturewar to them. The nastiness in this forum is reflection of the $ and stakes involved in the struggle against Fascism, gun violence and violence in general. A struggle that forewarns the arms merchants that their moral Ponzi scheme will soon collapse, both at the individual level and the world level.
