Altamonte Police Cruiser Stolen; Shotgun Missing
Link

Just goes to show...crooks will always find ways of getting guns, even from those charged to protect us with them.

<snip>

Authorities in Orange County, Fla., are investigating the theft of an Altamonte Springs police cruiser early Wednesday in which a shotgun and computer were taken from inside the vehicle, according to Local 6 News.

1. heh
I remember Altamonte when they were celebrating getting their first Dairy Queen!

Aren't police officers trained to lock their cruisers?

When I was a City Administrator, every time I saw one of our cruisers parked without an officer, I checked to see if the doors were locked. If it wasn't, then all the radios, sirens, were turned to full volume so that when the officer put the key in the ignition EVERYTHING went off. It used to be fun watching the rookies scramble to turn everything off at once. After a while, there weren't any unlocked vehicles anymore. :evilgrin:

2. A few times in my career
I found a rookies patrol car parked, unlocked with the keys in the ignition. I would take the car and drive it back to the police station and make him or her walk back to come get it. Had someone did a variation of what you said, a patrol car was left running with nobody in it, person turned on the siren and lights then locked the doors.

3. Orange County?
Why would Orange County police be investigating the theft of a Seminole County cruiser? Oh, never mind.
