What Happens When The AWB Sunsets?
On Sept. 14 will it be legal to attach flashiders and collapsable stocks to all the FALs and ARs that have been sold/assembled over the last ten years? All the high-capacity clips that are now marked 'law-enforcement and military only,' will it be legal for a civilian to purchase them? Will it be legal to attach pistolgrips to all those hideous weapons now sporting thumbhole stocks?

1. Democrats point out that pResident Turd loses his last claim
to be a moderate and we get a GREAT campaign issue...

Every Tim McVeigh wannabe creams his jeans...

And we get one of our first legislative priorities for the new Congress and President Kerry.

4. Toss The Horseshit Somewhere Else..
The "offical" Dem line on the AWB is no great campaign issue, at least if we want to gain an advantage in states where we currently lose.
As you may have noticed here, even at DU there is some excitement over the AWB sunset, I don't think there are any "TM wannabees" here. In fact I have been an anti-racist activist for many years. And I do plan on buying a currently banned AR varient this fall.
As for as legislative priorities, I can think of a dozen or more that would actually be usefull and make this a better country. The gun issue is dead, get over it. The AWB is last century's stupidity.

5. The only horseshit around is the RKBA crap
"s you may have noticed here, even at DU there is some excitement over the AWB sunset,"
Usually from the same "pro gun democrats" who also insist the ban doesn't do anything. Of course, they also slander every democrat anyone's ever heard of and post right wing horseshit with clockwork regularity, too.

"I don't think there are any "TM wannabees" here"
Yeah, surrrrrrrrre.....

6. "Slander" means to tell lies.
And I haven't yet seen a single untruth about Dianne Feinstein on this entire message board. On gun issues (which is all she seems to involve herself with), she's a glaring hypocrite. She opposes concealed-carry permits, yet carried (and possibly still carries) a gun in San Francisco when it was illegal to do so.

In fact, a few months ago there was a "Who is your least favorite Democrat?" poll in the General forum and Feinstein was a close second behind Lieberman.

10. I can't believe it, we finally agree on something!
The party will definitely use this against Bush.

However, all the gun-grabbers are fearful of September 14 because of what will really happen...NOTHING!

No bloodbath
No UZIs and AK47s flooding the streets
No proof that the ban did anything but harass lawful gun owners

And this is the day the gun-grabbers fear, because their lies will be exposed.

The farther the party can separate themselves from these lies, the better off we will be.

Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 05:51 PM by 21stcentprogressive
Tim McVeigh did not use a gun for his despicable act, he instead used perfectly legal materials to construct a WMD. Where are your cries for a ban on the components McVeigh used?

and this is only a lose for the gun-grabbers because their lies will be exposed. The fear is palpable.

Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 10:55 PM by Zister
No one ever mentions that more than 800,000 law abiding armed citizens prevent or stop a violent felony each year. Just the fact that they had a firearm was enough in most cases to stop the bad guy.

3 out of the 4 latest school shooting were stopped by a private citizen who was armed.

When they talk about XXX number of people being shot each year. They dont tell you that the majority of those numbers come from gang on gang violence. Those numbers also include all lawful shootings by police or anyone else.

If you want to know what kills people: (no particular order)

1. Car Accidents
2. Doctors errors
3. School Sports
4. Backyard Pools

have already tried facts and logic, but the gun-grabbers on this board are too powerful with their "that is right wing horseshit" and "you are for guns, so is David Duke, you are a racist" arguments. We just can't compete with that kind of firepower (pun intended)

Welcome to the board, I just thought I better let you know how things are before you waste too much time.

31. That IS hilarious...
We have the bullets for brains bunch waving that phony statistic around like a bloody shirt on a regular basis....

Of course, if that number from Kleck's survey were even remotely true, there would be more criminals wounded and killed than there are gunshot victims...which is clearly untrue.

But hey, preposterous fantasy is all there is to the RKBA cause....

(And isn't it special to see on a forum for progressives and liberals the implication that shootings of minority members don't really count?)

25. Watch out for pistol grips and bayo lugs
The only thing that the AWB did was make preban rifles and magazines more expensive and cause some 'minor' cosmetic changes to the post ban rifles. The entire ban was useless on its face. Not to mention that they are only used in less than 2% of crimes. I am all for common sense gun laws that actually effect its intended purpose. The AWB is just not one of those things.

but seriously to answer you question, I dont know about the "LEO only stuff."

As for attaching pistol grips, collaspsable stocks, and bayonet lugs, if you dont live in a state that forbids that kind of stuff then you should have no problem in putting that stuff on your weapons.

3. I imagine that "LE Only" equipment will remain LE only...
...but it won't matter because the "civilian" version of the same stuff will be so plentiful and cheap.

As for what will be legal...after the sunset, you will be allowed to attach a folding or collapsible stock, pistol grip, flash suppressor, threaded barrel or grenade launcher to any weapon.

The grenade launchers are for people who enjoy having ugly, empty, useless 40-mm tubes under their rifles.

Still can't believe an organic grenade launcher was included as a feature to be banned.

What will happen...pay a lot less for normal Glock magazines.

8. 64 more days!!!!

"I imagine that "LE Only" equipment will remain LE only..."

Ummmm, sort of, but not really. Once the ban expires, there would be no prohibition for civilians owning firearms or mags marked
"LE Only"; there would be no Federal law in place that says it would be illegal for civilians to own "LE Only" marked items.

The only reason post Sept 94 magazines and AWs are marked is to identify them as being legally manufactured for LEO (or military), use per the exemption stated in the current AWB. Once the ban expires the LE marking requirement goes with it. I'm certain that manufacturers will still continue to produce "LE Only" magazines and firearms for states with their own AWB.

The only foreseeable problem is that firearms manufactured and sold to law enforcement agencies are exempt from the Federal excise tax (the same tax applies to ammunition).

I know of at least one online ammo seller that ran into a bit of trouble with an ammunition manufacturer for selling ammo marked "For Law Enforcement Only" to the general public (even though there was a civilian version that was identical). The only difference was that the manufacturer didn't have to pay any excise tax on the LEO ammo.

For that reason it could be questionable for selling "LE Only" marked firearms, but there would be nothing unlawful about civilian ownership.

"The grenade launchers are for people who enjoy having ugly, empty, useless 40-mm tubes under their rifles".

40mm grenade launchers are considered "destructive devices" under the 1934 NFA. Perhaps you're thinking of the 37mm flare launchers?

Personally, I probably wouldn't bother with buying one, but oddly enough there are "people who enjoy having ugly, empty, useless 40 37-mm tubes under their rifles".

http://37mm.com

The grenade launcher provision of the 94 AWB has more to do with muzzle devices that can be used to launch a rifle type grenade (never mind that any grenade is classified as a "destructive device" and subject to the same paperwork and $200.00 NFA tax).

One of the little nuances is that muzzle brakes and compensators could be classified by the BATFE as grenade launchers if they were a certain size and capable of accepting and performing as a grenade launcher (I think it's something like 22mm-24mm?).

Oh well,in 64 days it'll all be over :bounce:

(for a little while anyways).

30. Nothing bad will happen.
The gun-grabbers lies will be plain as day. I'll but an adjustable stock on my AR-style rifle and buy magazines marked LEO/Gov't use only. The country will be a freer place and certain members of this board will probably stay holed up for a few days until even they realize that everything they thought was false.

I'll probably order an adjustable stock for my AR in August and have a celebratory attachment party at midnight on September 13, 2004.

Question: If I attach an adjustable stock to my AR at 12:00:01 EDT on September 14, put it into my trunk, and drive west until I cross into the central time zone prior to midnight CDT, am I violating the AWB?
