1. They're working like a charm....NOT!
"In addition to the 505 people in Indianapolis who suffered death or injury by guns in 2002, it cost $5 million to treat them medically, according to the Indiana Partnership to Prevent Firearm Violence, which reported in late Autumn, 2003.
Although homicides in Marion County have been going down since 1998, which had a record high of 162 fatalities, 2001 and 2002 each had 119 homicides, including police action shootings and shootings in self-defense."

"The Americans for Gun Safety Foundation has found that 9,023 guns bought at 14 gun stores in Indiana between 1996 and 2000 were used in more crimes than those bought in any other state.
Four out of the five top sellers of guns for crime were based in the metropolitan Indianapolis area.  One, Don's Guns, with 2,294 guns used in crimes, was second only to a Chicago firm.  "

2. Remind me to not live in Indiana....
What in the hell are they all carrying guns around for?

That's the problem with this country, you can't walk into a WaWa without thinking some fool has a gun and is willing to use it if you look at him funny.

7. The guy...
who will shoot you for looking at him funny doesn't have a concealed handgun license.

You can look at the statistics from the 38 states that readily issue CHLs. CHL holders simply don't commit violent crimes. You can't find more than a few cases, ever, out of millions of licensees.

10. Too TOO funny
"CHL holders simply don't commit violent crimes."
Unless you actually LOOK...at which point you discover they not only commit crimes, but do so at a rate HIGHER than the general population...

"From 1996 to 2000, Texas concealed handgun license holders were arrested for weapon-related offenses11 at a rate 81 percent higher than that of the general population of Texas, aged 21 and older. These weapon-related offenses include arrests for 279 assaults or aggravated assaults with a deadly weapon, 671 unlawfully carrying a weapon, and 172 deadly conduct/discharge firearm."

http://www.vpc.org/studies/ltk4intr.htm

"Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for nearly two crimes a day since the law went into effect.
* Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for more than one serious violent crime per month including: murder/attempted murder, kidnapping4, and rape or sexual assault since the law went into effect.
* Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for one weapon-related offense every other day since the law went into effect.
* Family violence was identified in more than one in 20 incidents involving concealed handgun license holders."

http://www.vpc.org/studies/ltk2intr.htm

http://www.vpc.org/studies/ltk2inc.htm

http://www.vpc.org/studies/ltk3arr.htm

Hence the push from the gun lobby to keep this information hidden from the public in state after state.

15. Damn lies and statistics
Texas has about 240,000 CHL holders out of about 24 million people.

Here is the most recent conviction rate chart from Texas DPS

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/convrates.htm

Now as far as I can tell there is only one category that CHL holders lead in rate of conviction. Can you tell me why they lead in that one category?

21. Congratulations...
That's the same horseshit way to look at it that led Faux Noise to proclaim Iraq was safer for our troops than California.

"Texas has about 240,000 CHL holders out of about 24 million people."
And it's a fucking disaster area....CHL has been utterly worthless in doing anything but giving a handful of neurotics a dangerous toy to play with...

11. That's reassuring...
in addition to 300,000 people who say things like "Indiana is nice and safe" but still carry a gun, there is an indeterminate population of people who carry a gun outside of the law...

Great.

but surely they'll obey the next anti-gun law we pass. :eyes:

What do you suggest to put a stop to the criminals committing crimes? Pass a law making crimes even more illegal?

Yeah, that's the ticket. Half a million vigilantes.

33. Age does not make idiots - or geniuses
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 10:01 AM by skippythwndrdog
It does slow people down, but Wilbur doesn't appear to be in poor mental or physical shape. I remember my grandfather roofing barns until he was nearly 90. Tom Ewell's (remember him - opposite Marilyn monroe in 7 Year Itch or as the old wino on Baretta?) mom lived alone and drove her own car until she was 108. She did it safely, too. I knew her well because she was a close friend of my grandparents.

OTOH, I don't know how much protection Wilbur's gonn get from that Hi Power .22.

Wilbur, stop being a dumbass and get your damn finger off the trigger!

5. I love Indiana!
Very friendly. Very safe.

And since Indiana recognizes all out-of-state concealed handgun licenses, I've carried in Indiana for years on other states' licenses. Now, of course, I have an Ohio license as well.

We're actually considering a move to south-eastern Indiana or northern Kentucky. We're thinking about buying a small farm. I miss horses and shooting tin cans in my back yard, and my wife would like more room for the kids.

yet you feel the need to carry a concealed weapon?

Now if you said "Dark and dangerous", then you'd make more sense.

where carrying is quite justified. Of course, I carry everywhere out of habit.

I've been called "dark," but I've never been called dangerous. :)

18. Not that casinos are a bad thing. They're not.
It's just too bad that the property values from the Indiana state line to Vevay along the river have jumped so much since Argosy, Grand Vic and Belterra have opened. On the brighter side, all of the little river towns have enjoyed a lively resurgence in tourism since gaming arrived. All the tired and dirty little river towns have become vibrant, clean aommunities with the infusion of gaming dollars and the income from the casino patrons.

because you cleaned out the rack? or hit a biggie on the slots? I don't do slots, but my wife has hit a couple of jackpots over $100,000.00. My best night at black jack netted almost $300,000.00. Oh yeah, thanks for the loot, Mr. Harrah.

40. The Mass number is for all types of weapons lic. - CC are much much less
A "B" lic gets you 10 rounds or less in the trunk of the car going hunting, target shooting, or transporting to a new permanent location. There is also a simple have in the house lic, as I recall.

The "A" lic is the CC - and I did not get the number for that alone.
