Ashcroft Vs. Kerry on Civil Liberties

I found this article rather alarming:

http://www.reason.com/hod/jb072604.shtml

I had no idea that John Kerry was against encryption. I guess that explains why he signed the patriot act.

I'm even more surprised to see that Ashcroft was for it.

Either way, both of them have been wrong. The first ammendment secures the right to encrypt, and denies the government the right to force easy interception. (as well as the fourth and fifth.)

1. Geez...
We can split hairs all night on stuff like this.

What is Kerry's position on tomato on Tuna sandwiches, vs. A$$KKKrofts?

4. Your article is interesting. Kerry's position on civil liberties should
be examined a little closer. I love the guy though. we all can't be perfect. I think alot of the senators are rethinking their votes on the patriot act. I think they were mislead on that as well as many other things.

6. Cant blame him
I think everyone was ready to take the terrorism issue to the next level after 9-11 and the patriot act seemed sensible at the time. Who could foresee how it would be used, or misused actually.

You are right, alot of our smarter elected officials are rethinking things in light of the deceptions the bushies put out. And history will look on that re-assessment kindly.
