Thieves Rob Bus Full of Policemen |
|
Gives a whole new meaning to, "Where's a cop when you need one?" http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=583&e=1&u=/nm/20040916/od_nm/odd_brazil_robbery_dc<snip> Forty-six Brazilian policemen traveling to a sports competition were caught with their guard down this week when four Brazilian thieves robbed the bus carrying them to the event.I can't believe that none of the 46 were packing.

2. If one was, how would that have helped? |
|
Seems it might have turned into a very bloody bath. Several dead or maimed. Now, those 46 have the chance to go out and catch those 4.

so basicly you would rather count on the robber's mercy? lol
I read a story a while ago when a man got carjacked. He was thrown in the trunk. Then, after driven around Chicago for an 1 hour he was shot in the head. Pretty nice eh.

4. I didn't say that it would have helped. |

Sorry if you got the impression that I thought it would have. I just found it odd that out of 46 cops, none was packing.
OTOH, if several had been armed (as many off-duty cops in the U.S. usually are), the thieves likely would have gotten a rude surprise.

6. Yeah, I guess I got that impression |

but no sweat, as for you addition, I stand by my posts - I don't see good coming from a yahoo drawing a gun against robbers on a crowded bus.

I have this sneaky feeling that unless the perps jumped on the bus while it was stopped, they would never have gotten on if several of the cops had been armed.

Most criminals are not brave, they are simply bold cowards. When confronted with an armed civilian, even if they have a gun themselves, most would flee. They don't get guns or weapons to even the score, they get them to stack the deck in their favor. Against an armed civilian, the odds are severely shifted away from them again.

A big bruise to their ego, which might take a while to heal, is nevertheless better than being dead.
Where were the radios, on duty cops, helicopters?
Cant open the link for some reason.

16. You ever seen what criminals pack in Brazil? |
|
Even if the police were packing, I would rather not take on four men most likely armed with machine guns.

About 10 years ago, some yahoo decided to stick up a bank in New York City....
Directly across the street from the local FBI office.....
On PAYDAY.....
Walked past a long line of men and women in suits, right up to the tellers cage, then pulled out a gun and said "This is a stickup!"
What he heard next was "click", "click", "click", "click".....
Witnesses said is sounded like the firing line at Quantico when the instructor says "Ready on the right?"
Another DARWIN award candidate..... :-)
