Jordan's king to meet Abbas and Sharon in days

AMMAN, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah will visit the Palestinian territories and Israel soon to discuss with their leaders reviving Middle East peace talks, palace officials said on Saturday.

They said the monarch's visit, in the coming few days, would seek to build on the momentum generated by Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip to try to persuade the Jewish state to extend its withdrawal to the West Bank.

U.S. President George W. Bush announced after an Oval Office meeting with Abdullah on Thursday that the king agreed to visit Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to offer them his "voice of reason" in peacemaking.

"The king will visit in coming days to push the peace process forward after the Gaza withdrawal," one palace official told Reuters.
