ZOA: We Urge Members Of Congress Not To Meet With Cindi
Sheehan - It Legitimizes Her Extremist Attacks
Upon U.S. And Israel

The ZOA is respectfully urging U.S. Senators and House members not to meet with Cindy Sheehan, an anti-Iraq war protestor, who has made vicious, extremist and false statements about America and Israel. Doing so only confers legitimacy and credibility upon Cindy Sheehan, which she does not deserve. Her extremist remarks include:

"America has been killing people on this continent since it was started. This country is not worth dying for..."
"When I was growing up, it was Communists. Now it's Terrorists. So you always have to have somebody to fight and be afraid of, so the war machine can build more bombs, guns, and bullets and everything."
"They're not waging a War on Terror but a War of Terror. The biggest terrorist is George W. Bush."
"My son joined the army to protect America, not Israel."
"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism."
"Thank God for the Internet, or we wouldn't know anything, and we would already be a fascist state."
"George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans."
"We have this lying bastard, George Bush, taking a 5-week vacation in a time of war."

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "Anyone who has made statements such as these should not be given the respect of a meeting with a member of Congress."

7. That's nice
However, the ZOA is a rather small organization especially when compared to AIPAC who has elected so far to remain quiet on the issue.

Also note that ZOA has had some disagreements with the ADL over Gaza, with the ADL also being a much larger organization.

I would not read much more into this than there is. I would however note that this was predictable from this organization the second that Cindy made the ignorant comment that the war in Iraq was being fought for Israel.

8. She denies saying that:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/18/13217/6996

<snip>

"Another thing is that the Israel thing has not died. I did not say that my son died for Israel. I have never said it, I don?t think it, I don?t believe it. It is just another lie, smear tactic from the right. It needs to die right now. It?s not the truth. I stand by everything that I have said. But I will not stand by things that I haven?t said. I am not anti-Semitic."

<snip>

"A former friend who is anti-Israel and wants to use the spotlight on me to push his anti-Semitism is telling everyone who is listening that I believe that Casey died for Israel and has gone so far as to apparently doctor an email from me. People have to know that he doesn?t speak for me. ABC Nightline can?t confirm his email is real and therefore any reporting on it is irresponsible. That is not my issue. That is not my message and anyone who knows me knows it doesn?t sound like me."

9. Some say she didn't make the comment...
about the war in Iraq being fought for Israel. I think she did and now she (or her supporters) are backtracking on it.

It was a stupid thing to say because she alienated a lot of people who were orginally in her corner.

10. Correction. SHE said she didn't make the comment...
Is there some reason why you'd prefer to think Cindy Sheehan is a liar?

12. I think she was embarrassed by her comment...
and that's why she backed away from it. I really do hope that she didn't say it but I'm sceptical.

13. Why would she have been embarrassed by it if she'd said it?
That doesn't make sense to me. As no-one's shown any evidence that Cindy Sheehan is a liar and everything I've read about her shows her to be anything but a liar, there's absolutely no reason I can see to not believe her when she says she didn't say it...

11. Are they pumping up their own importance on their site?
I took a look round their site and found this:

The Zionist Organization of America is the oldest, and one of the largest, pro-Israel organizations in the United States. Founded in 1897 to support the re-establishment of a Jewish State in the ancient Land of Israel, its presidents have included such illustrious Jewish leaders as Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis and Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver. The ZOA was instrumental in mobilizing the support of the U.S. government, Congress, and the American public for the creation of Israel in 1948.

A leading Israeli newspaper, Ma'ariv, recently called the ZOA "the most important organization in the American Jewish community today."

http://www.zoa.org/aboutzoa.htm

Just having a quick look around the site, they're a bunch of hardliners. From opposing a Palestinian state to their complaints about the ADL, there doesn't seem to be a stone left unturned in their efforts to be right out there...
