Palestinians killed, no questions asked
Full reliance on IDF accounts, word choice, taking sides – that’s what the media does when it comes to Palestinians being killed; academic study finds fault with Israeli media

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3225497,00.html

<snip>

"The five “W’s” that every first year communications student can recite in his sleep – what happened, when, who was involved, why and where – evidently don’t apply when Palestinians are killed. A new study examining media coverage of the Intifada finds that in incidents when Palestinians are killed, the Israeli media relies almost exclusively on the security establishment’s official version of the story.

IDF spokespeople, usually dubbed “senior security officials,” are quoted with finality, and only rarely are their versions measured up against Palestinian’s accounts or is any independent investigation done to verify their accuracy.

Over 3,300 Palestinians were killed by IDF gunfire since the outbreak of the Intifada in September 2000. The Keshev Association (president - writer David Grossman, chairman – Dr. Daniel Dor of Tel Aviv University’s Communications Department) examined the reporting methods in 22 such cases in December 2005. They studied news reports on Israel's three leading television channels (1, 2 and 10) and three leading newspapers (Yedioth Ahronoth, Ma’ariv and Haaretz). Altogether, they scrutinized 135 such news reports.

Of 48 reports of Palestinians killed as result of IDF gunfire, only eight reports provided an account other than the army’s, and only once did a report give an alternate version of a targeted assassination. As a rule, the media reported twice as much on targeted assassinations – which are planned in advance and aimed at a particular person – than on Palestinian deaths in other army operations."

2. I believe that the last statistics death ratio is 10 to 1
10 Palestinians to 1 Israeli.

Which is a very telling statistic, in my humble opinion. Of course hundreds of Palestinians are held in Israeli jails -- and zero Israelis are held in Palestinian jails. Treatment of the Palestinian prisoners would be called torture by real civilized Nations.

3. I would add that there is no questions for the deaths of Palestinian
solidarity activists, either.
Rachel Corrie. If she were killed in any other nation, the United States would have insisted on an independent inquiry. Despite the fact that the State Department finds inadequate the official Israeli explanation for her death (called deliberate murder by eyewitnesses), and the State Department has NOT closed the case, there will be no action taken.

James Miller. A journalist. Killed by Israeli soldier in Gaza. http://www.justice4jamesmiller.info/home.htm

Brian Avery. http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/02/25/1455249

Tom Hurndall. Because of heavy media pressure, his parents were able to get an investigation into his death. As a result, an Israeli soldier was convicted of killing him without reason. The soldier said that he had orders to kill anyone in that area. Including the Palestinian children that Tom was assisting.

As to Palestinians, we could post all day, every day, about all the Palestinians who have killed needlessly and not be done naming each one, and giving the circumstances of each death.

This is a crime that the United States is complicit, and we must demand change and accountability.

7. Because those who are killed are human beings, that's why!
And just in case you've forgotten, Hamas was only recently elected, yet most of the deaths mentioned in the article are from last year. Or was the Fatah led PA also attempting to destroy Israel's way of life?

Violet...
