Israeli Extra-judicial Killing Sparks Inter-Palestinian Clashes in Gaza, 3 Killed

01/04/2006

Palestine Media Center – PMC

A fresh Israeli extra-judicial killing in Gaza Strip on Friday led to an exchange of accusations then to clashes among Palestinians, which claimed three lives and led the Hamas-led government to ban armed displays in public and to open a probe, only hours after a Palestinian who was set free by the Israeli raid on Jericho prison in March blew himself up together with four illegal Jewish settlers in the West Bank on Thursday, an attack that was immediately condemned by President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) troops, backed by tanks and a helicopter gunship, raided and demolished to rubble the US and British-monitored Palestinian prison complex in the West Bank town of Jericho on March 14, kidnapped the leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation Front (PFLP) and newly-elected lawmaker Ahmad Saadat and 32 others, and let loose dozens of security and criminal inmates.

Two Palestinian police officers and two prisoners were killed, including one who died from his injuries a few days later.

Three days after the raid the Israeli daily Haaretz warned that the IOF were “preparing for possible (Palestinian) revenge attacks.”

Ahmad Masharkah, 24, from the Hebron area in southern West Bank, who had been arrested by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in Jericho prison, was among those who were set loose by the IOF raid.

Dressed like an Orthodox Jew, Masharkah blew himself up together with four Jewish settlers at the entrance of the illegal Israeli colony of Kedoumim in the northern West Bank after nightfall on Thursday.

1. What a load of crap!
"A fresh Israeli extra-judicial killing in Gaza Strip on Friday led to an exchange of accusations then to clashes among Palestinians, which claimed three lives and led the Hamas-led government to ban armed displays in public and to open a probe, only hours after a Palestinian who was set free by the Israeli raid on Jericho prison in March blew himself up together with four illegal Jewish settlers in the West Bank on Thursday, an attack that was immediately condemned by President Mahmoud Abbas."

It is Israel's fault that three lives were lost because of "clashes among Palestinians." Are they responsible for anything they do?!

2. Since you're posting everything from today's Haaretz, I thought I'd post
something from a Palestinian publication, before you got around to posting Haaretz's crossword puzzle for the day.

6. Then what are you saying?
Let me guess. He posted something that's written from a Palestinian perspective, so rather than actually discuss it, it's so much easier to jump in with that misused word *propaganda* and so avoid adding anything constructive at all to discussions...

btw, don't tell me what I know. You don't...

7. He posted propaganda because I posted multiple posts from Ha'aretz.
There is no discussing that propaganda.

do remember your last statement....

8. It's only yr opinion that it's propaganda...
If you feel there's nothing worth discussing, then why bother posting in the thread??

I don't need to remember my last statement as I'm not in the habit of telling other posters 'but you know that!!!'

9. I didn't say it wasn't my opinion.
As for discussing, well, I did that in the first post. Did you miss that?

You do need to remember that post....bookmark it!

11. And some opinions are pretty silly ones...
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 06:14 AM by Violet_Crumble
Especially when those opinions involve not understanding what propaganda is.

Let me get this straight. You claim it's propaganda and not worth discussing, but then claim you discussed it anyway? Uh-huh...

12. Silly, indeed.
You say, "Especially when those opinions involve not understanding what propaganda is." Are you, VC, telling me what I do and don't know? Seems like it.

"Let me get this straight. You claim it's propaganda and not worth discussing, but then claim you discussed it anyway? Uh-huh..."

Oh, but I did. Sorry to disappoint. My first point addressed the FIRST paragraph of the "article."

Did you miss the response to my post? Was it a scathing retort? Was it proof that that I said was wrong? NO! The response was: "Since you're posting everything from today's Haaretz, I thought I'd post...something from a Palestinian publication, before you got around to posting Haaretz's crossword puzzle for the day."

Therefore, the entire reason for his "retort" was because he didn't like that I had published multiple reports from Ha'aretz." Seems it is something you and he share.

13. I said you don't understand what propaganda is...
I don't recall saying 'but you KNOW that!'. If I did, please point me to it, and I'll apologise. If you did undersand what propaganda is, you'd be able to identify it when you see it and not just label everything from a Palestinian perspective and give everything that you agree with a free pass...

So seeing you said that it's propaganda and not worth discussing, my question still stands. Why did you discuss it anyway?

On the subject of flooding the forum with over ten articles from Ha'aretz in a short period of time - I remember a long time ago in this forum when another poster acted as though they had to post every article that appeared in a news source. Irritating habit as it pushes threads that are active way down the page and it seems to defeat the purpose of posting articles with a wish to have them discussed. Can't say I've ever posted multiple articles from the same source in a short period of time, but then I'm more interested in posting new articles that people might actually want to discuss :)

15. reading....
VC: "I said you don't understand what propaganda is...I don't recall saying 'but you KNOW that!'.

Hmmmm...I didn't SAY you said, 'but you KNOW that!' I asked, "Are you, VC, telling me what I do and don't know?" You do realize that "know" and "understand" are synonyms? That was in response to "Especially when those opinions involve not understanding what propaganda is." However, you go on to tell me what I "know" with "If you did undersand (sic) what propaganda is, you'd be able to identify it when you see it and not just label everything from a Palestinian perspective and give everything that you agree with a free pass.... See, in that statement, you tell ME what I understand (know). Then, assume, what I would or wouldn't do. Funny, you asked me not to do that to you.

"So seeing you said that it's propaganda and not worth discussing, my question still stands. Why did you discuss it anyway?" So you admit I did discuss it? That contradicts your "If you feel there's nothing worth discussing, then why bother posting in the thread??" Well, I felt that his propaganda did deserve an initial reaction.

As for your past experiences, I could care less. "Flooding the forum?" Not one article I posted, within DU guidelines, was not recent! So, just because you haven't done it, means the rest of us should follow your guide? As for posting "new articles that people might actually want to discuss :), well, all of mine are recent! I should not post because someone may not want to discuss the article? What happens when they don't want to discuss the article? Will it be a version of the recent post about the "art show?" Or should it be a "patting on the back" thread?

16. I'm going to do myself a favour here...
I did take you off ignore a while back in the hope that you may have something to say worth reading. But given the increasingly hostile and petty tone of some posts and my desire to be able to see active threads not buried under a deluge of every article from one source when I come here to participate, I'm putting you on ignore now permanently. All in all it'll make the I/P forum a vastly more pleasant experience...

20. LOL
Eleven threads posted between 3:47 and 5:02 AM (9 of which were from Haaretz).

I'm suprised DU's anti-spam feature didn't kick him off.

He didn't post everything from today's Haaretz though. He missed the article about settlers attacking and beating Palestinian farmers.

10. Something I hadn't known...
"Ahmad Masharkah, 24, from the Hebron area in southern West Bank, who had been arrested by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in Jericho prison, was among those who were set loose by the IOF raid."

Not surprised that bit of information didn't appear in any of the Western media reports I read on the suicide bombing. Time to grab the popcorn and wait for the chorus of 'See! The PA doesn't keep its prisons secure! They're to blame for that prisoner walking loose and then murdering Israelis!!!'

not broadly accepted as a credible resource.

Try this: Palestinians keep inviting retaliation, Israelis keep dying.
