The chairman of the Islamic Movement's southern branch, United Arab List MK Ibrahim Sarsur, said Thursday that he is willing to accept granting Israeli settlers in the West Bank citizenship of a future state of Palestine as part of a final status peace treaty.
Speaking before an interfaith gathering in Tel Aviv, MK Sarsur denied suggestions he would accept a formula whereby settlers would remain in their homes in the West Bank as residents of the state of Israel.
"Any future and final agreement with the Palestinians must be based on two principles," Sarsur said. "A withdrawal from the entire West Bank up to the '67 lines. Under no circumstances will there be territorial swaps which guarantee Israel would maintain settlement blocs in the West Bank."
Sarsur emphasized that there is no room for settlements and their residents in the West Bank, and that his position on the matter of settlers remaining in the territories is only in reference to those who wish to remain in their homes under Palestinian rule and as Palestinian citizens.
