American Bomb Victim Mourned in Israel, NY Times, 5/15/2006

The family and friends of a Florida teenager who died of his wounds nearly a month after a suicide bombing packed a small Jerusalem synagogue Monday for a tearful memorial ceremony.

Hundreds of people attended the service for Daniel Wultz, 16, of Weston, Fla., before his body was flown home for burial. They remembered him as a caring boy who loved basketball, had recently embraced religion and dreamed of immigrating to Israel.

''Daniel had the biggest heart in the world,'' said his mother, Sheryl Wultz.

Daniel Wultz came to Israel with his parents to visit relatives on Passover. He and his father, Tuly, were having lunch at a Tel Aviv restaurant April 17 when a Palestinian suicide bomber detonated about 10 pounds of explosives in the entrance.

Daniel Wultz was brought to the hospital in critical condition, with wounds to his abdomen and a leg. He died Sunday. His death brought the number killed in the attack to 11, in addition to the suicide bomber.

1. Daniel Cantor Wultz
<snip>

WULTZ, DANIEL CANTOR, 16, of Weston, died May 14, 2006 of injuries sustained in a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on April 17. Daniel was passionate about Judaism and his friends and family. He and his parents were celebrating Passover with his family in Israel when he was killed. He was an excellent student and a member of the varsity basketball team at the David Posnack Hebrew Day School in Plantation. He was active in the Chabad Lubavitch of Weston and hoped to pursue his Jewish studies further after high school. He was handsome, witty and compassionate, and did not hesitate to speak out against injustice he encountered in his daily life. He was devoted to Halacha, the laws and teachings of Judaism, and Tikun Olam, the Jewish ideal that we must work to make the world a better place. Daniel was born in Miami, Florida on December 6, 1989 and was given the Hebrew name Naftali Meir. His parents added "Chaim," meaning "life," to his Jewish name after he was injured. He fought damage throughout his body and systemic infection with courage and dignity for 27 days at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, where he was treated with the utmost compassion and received the highest quality medical care. He is survived by his parents, Sheryl Cantor and Yekutiel (Tuly) Wultz, of Weston; a sister, Amanda; maternal grandparents Marjorie and Ronald Cantor, of North Miami Beach; paternal grandparents Leah and Yechiel Wultz, of Jerusalem; and great grandmother Alexandra Kaufman of Aventura. He is also survived by the following aunts, uncles and first cousins: Jan, Alexander, Jeremy and Adam Hockman, of Golden Beach; Kathy, Kenneth, Elizabeth and Alexander Deckler, of Sunny Isles; Amy, Michael, Benjamin and Leah Thorpe, of Miami; and Udi and Shula Wultz, Esty and Boaz Wultz, Chedva and Zacaria Shenkolevsky, and all of their children in Jerusalem. Other family members include great aunts and uncles Nancy and Alan Burch, of North Miami Beach; Jane and Edward Nacht, of Weston; and Alyn and Barry Segal, of North Miami Beach. Funeral services will be held at Chabad Lubovitch of Weston, 18501 Tequesta Trace Park Lane, Weston, 33326, late Tuesday afternoon (call 954-349-6565 for exact time), followed by internment at Beth David Cemetery in Hollywood. Donations may be made to One Family Fund (provides aid to victims of terrorism), 2627 NE 203rd St., Suite 111, Aventura, FL 33180 or to Operation Embrace.
