We have come a long way to address certain ussues..mainly the issue of Israel/Palestine conflict. Regrettably, the usual MSM don't report the issue of Palestine/Israel in fair and balance form, however we at DU, and many other media savvy know the facts. therefore am asking of you to have little of back-bone on this issue. There will be breaking news were many will report on this Gaza issue, and of course, many will report back to you as "violation of DU LBN" But as I have mentioned earlier, how do you suppose to have a war in the middle east and not be able to report it?

Israel is bombing Gaza and rounding up the Palestinian leadership. This is international news, deserving of general discussion on DU. Please, it's time to report these events in LBN. The rest of the world is watching-- why can't DU?

6. I think many of us would rather keep this issue under the carpet |

...but, sooner or later, we will realize we did injustice to that part of the world with our selective foreign policy

I was scanning over LBN to read about what's going on and couldn't find out all that much. I then started searching for "Israel/Palestine" and found this forum. It seems like hell is near breaking loose over there........why is there not much in LBN?

That is why this dispute/war is not allowed to be flung all over DU.

:hi:
Those rules keep some of the anti-Semitic/anti-Arab rhetoric to a minimum. Although, there needs to be an update to the rules here, IMO.
Welcome to the I/P Dungeon. :)

"This is why this dispute/war is not allowed to be flung all over DU." My dear friend, This is about Israel attacking occupied territory they rule, without protection from outside world....mind you!

This is about making sure that real discussion takes place and not the stupid bombs tossed about, usually by people you probably couldn't find Israel on a map, much less know anything about the conflict!

3. There is a good reason that it gets sent here. |

That reason seems to be beyond your view.

I'm not sure if you ever visited DU prior to the implementation of the rules, but the debates here were lead by extremely partisan stalwarts who engaged in vicious and inflammatory posts turning off far more people than they engaged. The debates here became cliched in how they developed moving from whatever topic was posted into a flamewar - usually in 20 posts or less. One thread would be stopped and the flamewar would move on to the next thread. It was also common to see hateful or biased material posted or cited.
The choice essentially came down to completely disallowing I/P related debates on DU, or implementing rules which required a higher level of behavior for people who wanted to debate on the subject. Skinner opted to implement the latter.
As for this being a major event, so were Jenin, the seige of Arafat, Arafat's succession, the Gaza pullout, as well as Sharon's illness and succession. The same rules that are in place now easily handled those events. LBN rules do allow for the posting of I/P related material, with the caveat of course that it is considered real news by the LBN mods and fits within their 12 hour posting window. They do tend to move material down here though after they let it sit for 24 hours or if they see it degenerating rapidly.
