PM: Media biased, doesn't show 'murderous viciousness' of Hezbollah

By Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent, and Reuters

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accused the international media Sunday of bias by not properly portraying the "murderous viciousness" of the Lebanese guerrilla group Hezbollah in its war with Israel.

"The massive, brutal and murderous viciousness of Hezbollah is unfortunately not represented in its full intensity on television screens outside of Israel," Olmert told reporters.

"A twisted image is presented, where the victim is presented as an aggressor."

On Sunday, Olmert asked Vice Premier Shimon Peres to leave on an urgent tour of the United States and European countries to present Israel's stance.

1. Sounds like a Republican complaing about how the media doesn't
tell the good news about Iraq...

6.  You mean you haven't heard any good news about Iraq?
Like there were fewer people killed in suicide bombings today than a few days ago? Actually I am sure there is some good news about Iraq somewhere, but I am not aware of it.

I think though the Israelis do have a point here. The Israeli press is far, far smaller than anything remotely compared to the numerous media outlets in the rest of the Mideast. They do not have an AlJazeera blaring either.

But the way the bombing is being carried out is just wrong

3. Both sides in this one are wrong
Israel looks worse because their bombs hit what they're aimed at, and they're aimed at apartments, stores, office buildings, airports, roads, TV and radio stations....

But they're both wrong. They need to be separated like two spoiled brats.

12. It's really 2200 rockets; here's the citation;

BBC reporter

snip "Not only that - the IDF has also revealed video footage of how Hezbollah also exploits mosques. A Katyusha launcher was shown outside the door of a mosque in south Lebanon. The guerrillas had been whipping the launcher in and out of the mosque to fire off rockets. Defense Minister Amir Peretz said so far Hezbollah has fired some 2,200 rockets at Israel since the start of the war twelve days ago. Most were Katyushas being launched from south of the Litani River. This is obviously why Israel wants to drive Hezbollah out of that area which ranges from five to twenty- five kilometers from the border. Peretz added that the guerrillas have longer-range rockets that they have not used so far. Hezbollah was the only terror organization in the world that possesses ground-to-ground rockets. As for an international force for south Lebanon, Peretz also said it must have the power to enforce its mandate and not simply monitor the situation. He referred to a NATO force."snip

And, BTW, it's acceptable for Israel to defend itself, whether you like it or not. Israel is not going after purely civilian targets like Hez does. It's going after military targets, like supply, transport, rockets, bunkers, communication, etc., which as far as I can tell meets the definition of the Geneva Convention rules.

14. by your own citation, those rockets were launched AFTER israel
started blowing the shit out of the country. and for a group that isn't targeting civilians, or civilian sites, israel is racking up a lot of civilian casualties.

israel has a right to defend itself, it does NOT have the right to blow another country to bits.

13. Sociopaths always blame everyone else, and never take responsibility
for their actions.

Olmert is now as much a war criminal as Milosevich, Saddam, Bush, and Blair!
