GIYUS calls Jews of world to web duty
Want to support Israel online? Just download Megaphone from WUJS website and get all needed updates

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3281619,00.html

<snip>

"When Giyus.org noticed a poll on Albabawa.com, a popular Arabic website, asking whether the current violence in Lebanon is an Israeli provocation, they decided to help balance the results.

A message with a link to the poll popped up on the desktops of GIYUS' Israel-loving members and soon, the poll results jumped from an overwhelming yes to an over 80 percent no.

GIYUS (Give Israel Your United Support) is a new project that has recently been released by the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) in order to balance anti-Israel sentiment expressed on the web and influence public opinion.

To accomplish this, they created Megaphone, a free tool that can be downloaded from their website. Megaphone allows alerts to pop up on users' desktops every time it finds an attention-worthy article, poll or forum on the internet. Students and members of pro-Israel organizations are encouraged to visit the sites and express their opinions."

4. Sounds wholesome and helpful...
oh wait a minute...

The following letter was sent by Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a variety of pro-Israel organisations, so-called 'hasbara'-groups and other supporters of Israel.
_____

Dear friends,

Many of us recognize the importance of the Internet as the new battleground for Israel's image. It's time to do it better, and coordinate our on-line efforts on behalf of Israel. An Israeli software company have developed a free, safe and useful tool for us - the Internet Megaphone.

Please go to www.giyus.org, download the Megaphone, and you will receive daily updates with instant links to important internet polls, problematic articles that require a talk back, etc.

We need 100,000 Megaphone users to make a difference. So, please distribute this mail to all Israel's supporters.

Do it now. For Israel.

Amir Gissin

Director Public Affairs (Hasbara) Department
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem

Well it has the seal of approval by the State of Israel! It must good.

Oh wait a minute --

If the government of Israel is running this thing, doesn't that mean that State of Israel and it's various agencies are producing the content?

So Israel is actively encourage foreign nationals to use Israeli-gov't propaganda domestically to change opinions that Israel views as unfavourable?

What's to stop Israel from using this Megaphone to interfere with the internal politics of, say, US elections?

So when a Supporter posts here in I/P and pretends to have their OWN opinions that they gained from 'reading' the various links, can we question their motives if it is found out they are simply posting Israeli government propaganda?

Should people be made aware that a poster's opinions of the ME might simply whatever is' scribbled by someone at a intelligence listening post?

Should other countries get their own megaphones perhaps? If they all had 'megaphones', then what point would there be to exchange ideas and opinions in a democracy -- you could simply have the Megaphones talk to one another...that would make everything a lot simplier?

I wonder what the reaction would be if it was, say, China encouraging their nationals and 'supporters' to rely on Chinese state propaganda to get the message out about how evil the Falun Gong are and how people outside of China just aren't getting the full story?

If we all had Megaphones, would we need a free press? Would the free press be a referee perhaps?

What if elected officials rely on stovepiped foreign intelligence served up as propaganda? Would consitituents feel very assured that they are actually speaking to some foreign intelligence service instead of their elected official who is merely parroting whatever the Megaphone tells him?

So many unknowns here...including the thing that shocked the hell out of me when I first saw this earlier...Are the Zionist nuts?

This is exactly the type of thing that makes the real anti-semitic ZOG-hating assholes freeper heads explode!

As if the world needs another toolbar -- can't wait for the Firefox extension :eyes:

7. LOL...
Actually if you think about it -- do supporters really need a toolbar to tell them to write, "Israel has a right to defend itself" or "This seems anti-semitic" or "that link isn't allowed here" ;-)
