Iranian paper: Great war to wipe out Israel coming
Iranian newspapers Kehyan and and Resalat have urged Muslims around the world to prepare for a 'great war' to destroy the State of Israel.

The newspapers published the editorials, translated from Persian by MEMRI , the Middle East translation service, to mark 'Quds' day on October 20, an Iranian 'holiday' calling for the "liberation" of Jerusalem and war against Israel.

"Hizbullah destroyed at least half of Israel in the Lebanon war... Now only half the path (to its destruction) remains," an editorial in the conservative Keyhan newspaper declared.

"It was proven that, by means of an offensive operation that need not be equal to Israel's moves, it is possible to neutralize the Zionist navy," the article said triumphantly.

1. Hmmmm. The "terrorists" seem "emboldened".
I am guessing that there will be more than one translation of this stuff, but the gloating tone seems clear, and the intent to keep gnawing away.

Amazing how they know exactly when this war will start...

"The great war is ahead of us, (and will break out) perhaps tomorrow, or in another few days, or in a few months, or even in a few Years... Israel must collapse,"

3. I can't imagine Iranian civilians not having access to real
information. And they'd know that Hebzollah didn't destroy 'half' of Israel. Hebzollah didn't destroy any of Israel. And that's what I imagine the Iranian public knowing. And I don't, I really don't, see them as being real anxious to get into a major war.

But what the hell do I know? I never thought the United States would go and murder hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians either. Foolish me, I thought saner minds would prevail.

4. I agree
I find it hard to believe that the average Iranian is unaware of the outcome of the war with Hisbullah. Just more saber rattling imo.

MEMRI Who?

Here's report from Brian Whitaker of The Guardian about MEMRI;

Brian Whitaker investigates whether the 'independent' media institute that translates the Arabic newspapers is quite what it seems:

Selective Memri

"Memri's intent is to find the worst possible quotes from the Muslim world and disseminate them as widely as possible."

A Guardian Unlimited article recently questioned the neutrality of a US-based institute that translates articles from Arabic newspapers. Here, the institute's president responds

Brian Whitaker's Selective Memri is an example of selective journalism.
Disregarding the Guardian's own code - "A newspaper's primary office is the gathering of news" - Whitaker has simply recycled inaccurate and previously published material.

Two days before his piece appeared on the web, he called our Washington office to ask for the Arabic original of an article translated by Memri from the London daily Al-Hayat. He could have used this opportunity to check his facts. He chose not to do so.
To start with, Memri is not a "mysterious organisation". Our telephone number, fax and email appear on every dispatch. True, the office address is no longer posted on our website. Whitaker may scoff, but we have received threats from rightwing radicals in America.

Had he asked, we would have provided him with our addresses in Washington, London, Berlin, Moscow and Jerusalem (as well as informing him that I retired from government office almost a decade ago).

7. I'm sure they're not referring to Israel and Israelis per se....
They just want to eliminate the Zionist regime, I'm sure. Iran is simply misunderstood, misquoted, or taken out of context by war-mongering chickenhawks. With plenty of *sarcasm*
