IDF admits targeting civilian areas with cluster bombs
From Ha'aretz (lots more in the full article):

The Israel Defense Forces on Monday admitted for the first time to having targeted populated areas with cluster munitions during the recent war in Lebanon.

--snip--

The IDF discovered that there had been "irregularities" in the use of cluster munitions, even before the end of the recent Lebanon war, sources in the defense minister's office said Monday.

--snip--

The statements released by the minister's office contradict Israel Defense Forces' claims made both during and after the war - regarding the use of cluster munitions.

One IDF version, which remained unchanged until earlier this week, held that the firing of cluster munitions was done "only by methods and means permitted by international law."

1. Irregularities my ass. They did it on purpose. It's only irregular
because the evidence of this crime against civilians can't be defended.

6. No kidding, this is how imperialists/colonialist must act to achieve
their conquest, to quell rebellion. It must be by absolute and bloody force.

Edited on Tue Nov-21-06 07:36 AM by pelsar
quelling rebellion?.....conquest?....as long as its sounds good use it.....making sense and using real world definitions shouldnt get in the way of a good rightous chant...

all together now: "ho ho ho...we wont go...ho chi min is gonna win"......might as well as use that one as well, it fits as well as your "conquest/rebellion" statement.

9. That is what it is.
Arrive under the auspices of foreign powers, and begin to methodically usurp land that was previously someone else's.

That is colonialism.

10. Cluster bomb blast wounds mine clearing experts in Lebanon
<snip>

"A cluster bomb from the Hezbollah-Israel war in southern Lebanon exploded Friday wounding two members of an international team of land mine clearing experts, Lebanese security officials said.

The two experts' legs were wounded, and they were rushed to the government hospital in the southern Lebanese town of Marjayoun where their conditions were described as serious.

The explosion took place in a field near the village of Deir Mimas south of Marjayoun and three kilometers (two miles) west of the Israeli border.

The wounded land mine clearing experts were identified by the security
officials as David Aldies, from Great Britain, and Damir Brasic, from Bosnia."
