Security measures in place for pro-Israel rally
State police and campus officials said precautions were in place to keep the peace at a pro-Israel rally scheduled for Thursday evening at Rutgers University, which was expected to draw pro-Palestinian counter-demonstrators.

The "Israel Inspires" rally on Rutgers' Busch campus in Piscataway was organized by Jewish groups in response to recent anti-Semitic vandalism at Rutgers and to a pro-Palestinian conference scheduled for this weekend in New Brunswick.

Gov. James E. McGreevey and U.S. Sen. Jon S. Corzine were scheduled to speak at the Israel rally.

Trooper Steve Jones, a New Jersey State Police spokesman, said troopers would be visible at the rally.

"We're going to have protection, obviously, for the governor, as well as an additional uniformed presence," Jones said.

A Rutgers spokeswoman, Pam Orel, also said steps were being taken to prepare for counter-demonstrators, although she declined to elaborate.

Hopefully the counter demonstrators will mind themselves and the right of Americans to honor Israel will be protected. Anti-Israel demonstrators have a history of unacceptable behavior.

1. I wonder if the ones at this one will deny the suffering of Palestinians?

The ones who rallied in Washington, DC (some of them, at least) booed Paul Wolfowitz when he brought that up...

2. Again, grouping people together

"Anti-Israel demonstrators have a history of unacceptable behavior."

Can you elaborate?

Who exactly are the 'Anti-Israel demonstrators' and what is the 'history'?

6. Elaboration.
The very act of criticizing the current Israeli regime is unacceptable behavior to some. Anyone who expresses opposition to the policies of Ariel Sharon is 'anti-Israel' and must be villified.

3. Interestingly...
what I notice here in Austin is that most law abiding anti-Israel protestors are the people of Arab and Muslim descent. It's usually the Anglo anti-Israel demonstrators that are more disorderly.

I got to say that ive noticed that also, the arabs i know protest peacefully and hate it when the lunatic fringe start their antics, they feel it brings their message into disrepute.
