Settlers to move into E. J'lem police HQ

By Akiva Eldar, Haaretz Correspondent

Based on an agreement signed with former police commissioner Moshe Karadi, right-wing settlers will take up residence in a group of buildings in Jerusalem's predominantly Arab neighborhood Ras al-Amud in the next few days. The building had hitherto served as the Samaria and Judea District Police headquarters.

The buildings are slated to become the nucleus of a new Jewish neighborhood in the so-called Holy Basin area, the fate of which is supposed to be decided in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Police officials said yesterday that work began before Pesach on vacating the place, and that in the coming days they will finish moving the offices to a new facility built in controversial Area E1, which connects Jerusalem with Ma'aleh Adumim.

Concurrently, right-wing settler groups filed a request with the Jerusalem Planning and Construction Committee a few days ago to approve construction of a new neighborhood of 110 housing units on the vacated site.

3. It's disturbing that someone with 1000+ posts could make a statement like that

4. These Israel=Nazi posts are becoming increasingly problematic on this board
Aside from being insensitive and misinformed, they are against the rules and guidelines of the forum.

5. Don't alot of Israelis make similar comparisons?
Like those Gaza settlers who were wearing yellow stars when they were being removed from their settlements?

7. No, Israelis definitely do not compare themselves to Nazis
where do people come up with such utter bullshit?

(Gaza settlers wearing yellow stars is something altogether different)

9. So what did the yellow stars mean?
I thought it basically implied that the soldiers who were removing them from the settlements were the equivalent of Nazis sending Jews to concentration camps. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6741231/

I also read, in Lords of the Land by Idith Zertal and Akiva Eldar, various accounts of settlers comparing Israeli political and military figures to Nazis in various other instances. I would have to dig around to find specific examples, but will work on it.

11. I daresay they do...
but are the RW settlers really a model for others to imitate?

14. Of course they're not a model for anyone to imitiate.
I just think it's important to point out that this doesn't occur only on one side. There's massive overuse of the Nazi analogy all over the place, and I think it's massively disrespectful, and cheapens the real historical events.

BTW, Veggie doesn't appear to agree with you that that's what the RW settlers are doing. I'm very anxious to see Veggie's explanation as to what exactly those yellow stars did mean.

10. Some on the far right do, unfortunately
One would hope that they would not be welcome on a board like this either.
