'Modesty patrol' suspected of spilling acid on teenage girl
Religious tensions at boiling point in Beitar Illite as 14-year-old girl attacked by member of town's 'modesty guard'

<snip>

"A 14-year-old girl from Beitar Illite was taken to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem after an unknown person spilled acid on her face, legs and stomach, causing light burn wounds.

The act has been attributed to a representative of the so-called 'modesty guard' in this town where religious and secular residents are increasingly at bitter odds.

MDA received the call just before midnight on Wednesday and paramedic Dror Eini who arrived on the scene to treat the girl also managed to calm her down enough so she could explain what had happened.

Eini told Ynet that “the modesty guards have been threatening her for quite some time.” According to the paramedic the focus of the threats has largely been the victim's 18-year-old sister and some suspect the attacker mistook the younger girl's identity for that of her older sister's.

Eini said the teenager was in a difficult emotional state: “She cried the whole way to the hospital, partly because she was in pain but mostly because she was terrified.” According to Eini at the time of her attack the girl had been wearing loose-fitting long pants and a short-sleeved shirt."

3. They just used to squirt bleach from syringes.
What an image, an orthodox Jew wandering around looking for another Jew who is not righteous enough to pour acid on.

5. just a question....
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 10:50 AM by pelsar
I realize that your just raising the question out of innocence and not really trying to equate a small bunch of extremists who act outside of the law with the Taliban who governed and are now attempting to regovern Afganistan.

its just a question your asking i understand and if someone would think that perhaps your trying to show how israel is some kind of racist, theorcratic country like the taliban...well its obviously all in their head.....

and so predictable, if an embarrassing comparison is made accuse the poster of attacking Israel as a whole, it just can not be that a fundie is a fundie or a comparison of some Haredi extremists to Muslim extremists. no that can not be, unless of course you are suggesting that the Haredi represent Israel.

"black man dragged to death behind a pickup truck"

http://edition.cnn.com/US/9902/23/dragging.death.03/

I'm not saying its all of the US..i'm just saying its just like the taliban

_________

if you were comparing extremists groups within societies one would choose perhaps the KKK or some other group that has not controlled the govt, your choice of the taliban was clear

(if we connect the dots of your post about the kids beating up the arabs and you 'wondering" if this will be the norm after the elections, we see a very clear line of "questions on your part)

i think this should be fun..you have your "questions" about israeli society, how it might just be racist or how its might just becoming racists because of various incidents....

13. not in any large numbers..
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 12:42 PM by pelsar
its actually classic what they did, since hamas has done the same exact thing as has hizballa. During they're hey day about 8 years ago, they had a large presence in the knesset. What they did was set up nurseries and kindergartens and schools for the poor. If you a poor parent(s) and someone comes around and offers your children a warm school, good food and a full day with supervision, and the govt in comparison offers half of that...you obviously go for the better deal. What comes with that is the indoctrination of the kids...but the parents would then vote for the religious parties, party from pressure from their kids.

the Israeli govt basically cut their funding eliminating that aspect....today their presence and influence is there, but not like it once was, two smaller parties. On the other hand, in population they are growing and they are a very anti democratic element within israel. In many respects they are going to be the "ruin" of jerusalem. The group with the roving bullies are the askenazi element (i once ran into them...or rather they once ruined a late night date i had) And as side note many of the kids who cant make it in the haredi society, become the extremists settlers (once a fanatic always a fanatic?), as the settlers have a system for picking up the outcasts of the haredi society.

(is my bias showing?)

and you'll love this tidbit as i just learned it: Much of the old city of jerusalem has incredibly expensive apts owned by US jews....and they're usually empty, kind of like "vacation homes."

17. How about Palestinians in Gaza?
Gaza women warned of immodesty

A hitherto unknown group calling itself the Just Swords of Islam issued a warning to Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip over the weekend that they must wear the hijab or face being targeted by the group's members.

In pamphlets distributed in various parts of the Gaza Strip, the group also claimed responsibility for attacks on 12 Internet cafes over the past few days.

The warning was directed primarily against female students in a number of universities and colleges who do not cover their heads in line with Islamic tradition.

The group said its followers last week threw acid at the face of a young woman who was dressed "immodestly" in the center of Gaza City. They also destroyed a car belonging to a young man who was playing his radio tape too loudly.

18. they've got it worse...
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 04:11 PM by pelsar
since the hamas backs them...and from what i understand, there is a lot of "preventive actions'. Men growing beards, women dressing more modestly even without their being any "laws"

in the past couples have been dragged through the streets, internet cafes being burned down etc. There is also, what appears to be, self censorship...if you read the blogs out of gaza there is no writing of the internal political changes.

19. Jpost says so
it must be, I googled acid thrown in face of gaza women got your link and 3 more one from jihadwatch, blogs for bush, dhimmi watch, and one called noisyroom they all ate it up with a knife and fork , but nothing from the Palestinians media or even Ha'aretz and guess what the story from the OP on this thread is buried deep on the second page below stories about Israeli trauma of the Gaza withdrawal and Bangladesh ect.

But if an unknown group of teenagers says they did it and jihad watch agrees who am I to question.

20. So the Arab-Israeli reporter is lying because of your google results?
You ought to see some of the places where articles from Ma'an News or Electronic Intifada get linked to via Google. Google searches will often find such articles cross-posted to a wide variety of loathsome right-wing hate sites. Does that make their content false as well?

Al-Jazeera has covered this group's attacks on video stores and Internet cafe, as well as their alleged involvement in bombing a Christian bookshop in this article:

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/1E59D28B-8430-4B88-89AC-C7B04BB42426.htm

Generally, the Israeli press does a much better job of publishing stories that reveal the ugly side of Israeli society. Palestinian news sources do not seem to be as willing to turn such a critical eye for the most part.

If you want to email Khaled Abu Toameh and ask for more information about his news story, his email address is available on the JPost website.

22. Absolutely despicable
Hopefully there will be criminal charges against the person who committed the crime reported in the OP.

The rights of women should be a major issue of discussion among anyone interested in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

Incidents of violence against women in Israel or in the West Bank and Gaza seem not to get the attention they deserve.

23. Now as to your "other" assertions
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 11:17 PM by azurnoir
(if we connect the dots of your post about the kids beating up the arabs and you 'wondering" if this will be the norm after the elections, we see a very clear line of "questions on your part)

I am not sure what "dots" you are connecting how ever if you are talking about the thread about the security camera catching Israeli kids beating up an Arab kid, I did quote an Arab cab driver as saying it was not an isolated incident. And wondered if Netanyahu being elected could be a step closer to or result in the culmination of "state backed emigration" of Israeli Arabs as 50% of Israeli Jews say they want done.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/842641.html

Now as to my question(s) about Israeli society I did ask one yesterday about Israeli Arabs being literate in or speaking Hebrew, judging by tone and the fact that the question went unanswered is the answer no? I would hope that is not correct.

6. What a vile thing to do
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 10:53 AM by LeftishBrit
So throwing acid at someone is quite all right, but wearing 'immoral' clothes is a sin?

If these nuts want some sort of Jewish theocracy run by an equivalent of the Taliban, let them go to a desert island and start their own. That's not what Israel was set up for, and fortunately won't be tolerated there!
