Israel says time not right for Gaza ceasefire
Israel says the time is not right for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and has stepped up preparations for a possible ground offensive after Hamas's long-range rockets hit another major population centre.

"If conditions will ripen and we think there will be a diplomatic solution that will ensure a better security reality in the south, we will consider it. But at the moment, it's not there," an aide quoted Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as saying on Wednesday.

4. Seems the M$M tide may be turning
Israel rejects truce call, pursues bombing Gaza

Gaza officials put the death toll at more than 390 dead and 1,600 wounded. Hamas says some 200 uniformed members of Hamas security forces have been killed, and the U.N. says at least 60 Palestinian civilians have died. Israeli defense officials say Hamas' top military and political leaders have gone underground and have not been touched.

6. I still get the impression that we're supposed to blame Hamas
(rather than the actual killers)

9. The church is not in Gaza
From the photo caption:

Palestinian Christians pray during a Mass service in support of Gaza at the Latin Holy Family Church in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008.

11. it is just sick.
both sides are bloodthirsty, and we do not have any credibility to broker some solution. We are supplying Israel with bombs. :-(

16. yup, esp. after that survey of Israeli attitudes about this latest incursion
that was posted here a few days ago. Majority support for the IDF's actions, with only a minority who believe it will actually reduce the number of rockets fired at Southern Israel. So if it's not self-defense they're really after, that doesn't leave a lot of good options left.
