IAF footage refutes claims of massacre in Gaza
IAF footage refutes claims of massacre in Gaza
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1066715113718

Twenty hours after the IAF helicopter rocket attack on a vehicle containing Hamas terrorists in the Nuseirat refugee camp on Monday night, which was described by the Palestinians as a massacre and by MIK Ranan Cohen as a "blitz", the air force released footage that clearly shows there were no Palestinian civilians in the street when the two rockets hit the car despite Palestinian reports claiming otherwise.

The thermal footage taken by a remote control drone that filmed the entire rocket attack begins shortly before the first rocket hits the vehicle carrying the Hamas suspects. The picture shows the main road in the camp with two vehicles traveling a distance apart along it. The helicopter monitors the movement of the terrorist's car, which is the second vehicle seen on the film and shows the first Hellfire missile directly hitting it.

The driver loses control, crashes into a tree and the car disappears, hidden by a building, but is seen seconds later traveling in reverse. There are no people on the streets and no other vehicles when the car comes to a halt. An ambulance is then seen passing the damaged vehicle as it continues along the road. Only after the ambulance is a distance away does the air force pilot release the second rocket which hits the vehicle and clearly shows three bodies lying in the street.

For at least two and a half minutes after the attack the footage shows the thermal images of one or two other people in the area but not close to where the vehicle that was hit.

Yah, some propaganda was involved. This is different. Jenin was a long-term campaign. This was over in a matter of minutes.

10. Everything...
an event that lasts several days will have several incidents that were witnessed by very few. An accurate picture of such an event would be impossible. In this case, it was over in a matter of minutes; one incident happened, and the consequences of that incident can be examined. Less events and situations to examine.

17. If Israel does it, it is by definition, not a massacre

Just Israel conducting routine military operations because it has the right to defend itself, and in the course of which whatever number of people died as a result of tank fire, and anyone killed is posthumously awarded the title of "senior Hamas leader."

18. That is not correct.
It is a result, proved as follows:

1.) The IDF is the most moral army in the World. Prime Postulate
2.) The IDF performed this attack. Self Admitted
3.) Therefore, the attack was moral. 1 & 2
4.) But massacres are not moral. Definitions of massacre and moral
5.) Therefore, this attack was not a massacre. By contradiction of prime postulate

20. a few facts you left out
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 11:40 PM by dfong63
Twenty hours after the IAF helicopter rocket attack on a vehicle containing Hamas terrorists in the Nuseirat refugee camp on Monday night, which was described by the Palestinians as a massacre and by MIK Ranan Cohen as a "blitz", the air force released footage that clearly shows there were no Palestinian civilians in the street when the two rockets hit the car despite Palestinian reports claiming otherwise.

check out the facts here in an AP article.

the palestinians say there were three missiles. ``A statement by Palestinian security said there were three missile hits, and those killed were struck by shrapnel from a missile fired after they had gathered near the vehicle.''

also, ``The grainy video showed a crowd gathering around the car about two minutes after the second strike, and the video ended some 40 seconds later. The military said an additional 10 minutes were recorded but didn't release the additional footage.''

gee, i wonder why the IAF only released PART OF the tape?

the article includes a sensible quote from one Israeli minister, ``"Something terrible happened, and everyone should be sorry about this," said Interior Minister Avraham Poraz, a member of the centrist Shinui party. "A pilot who is chasing after terrorists, if he sees that they are entering a crowd, it is better for him to give up. We will get them another time."''

and a chilling quote from an Israeli officer, ``Brig. Gen. Ruth Yaron, the army spokeswoman, acknowledged there were civilian casualties, but added that "there is no doubt that the majority of those killed yesterday were terrorists."''

so now, apparently, it's OK for Israel to kill innocent people as long as the majority of the victims are suspected of being criminals.

30. More info from the NYT 10-22-03
"It was at least 90 seconds after the second blast that dozens of people were seen leaving their houses to surround the wreckage. Moments later, the video presentation halted. A senior air force officer acknowledged that there was more tape but declined to show it, saying there was nothing more of interest to see.

Palestinian hospital officials reported on Monday night that eight people had been killed here.

Alex Fishman, perhaps Israel's foremost military journalist, wondered Tuesday in the pages of the largest daily newspaper, Yediot Ahronot, what "red lines" Israel still imposed on itself. "How long can we hurt innocent civilians?" he asked. "Is it conceivable that somebody on our side has decided that all of Palestinian society is the target?"

As usual, the Richard Perle newspaper of record missed half the story.

21. Eyewitness Testimony From The A.P. Reporters Has Some Place Here
"An Associated Press reporter who reached the scene shortly after the attack Monday night saw several people with what appeared to be shrapnel wounds lying on stretchers and receiving treatment from paramedics.

"More than a dozen ambulances were seen rushing from Gaza City to the area of Nusseirat.

"Within a half-hour of the missile strike, AP reporters saw dozens of wounded reaching the hospital in Deir al-Balah, some treated in the garden because there were no available beds.

"Ambulances were called in to transfer some of the wounded to larger hospitals in Gaza City."

Something happened to these people. It is reasonable to speculate concerning the motive for not showing the whole stretch of the video from the drone, in light of these reports.

Strikes against Hamas combatants are legitimate acts of war, and some allowance must be made both for the difficulty in engaging such targets, and for the chance of mishap always attendant on human effort, when assessing their results.

But there is no good to be had by with-holding evidence.

22. It is also quite unnecessary. The bush regime does not care how many

innocent people Israel slaughters. If they did, they would not continue to provide unlimited weaponry with which to do so.

Neither the "administrative branch," nor the politicians who comprise the symbolic legislative branch, nor the corporations who maintain them, nor the affluent voting classes have any objection at all to either massacres of Muslims in refugee camps or anywhere else, and the Policy of Starvation enjoys a robust popularity within all the afore-mentioned segments, as does the Torture Lottery, and the imprisonment of children is a popular practice within the US itself.

I believe I have mentioned on more than one occasion that if Ariel Sharon should find himself struck with a novel gastronomic whim and decide to roast and eat a Muslim child live on CNN, you may be assured that over the next few days, the entire US would be abuzz with lively and spirited, and many times emotional debate over the question of whether the camera should have swerved away.

28. it doesn't take much for you to fly off, does it?
there's still one bit from another Haaretz piece that remains of interest:--

The grainy video showed a crowd gathering around
the car about two minutes after the second
strike, and the video ended some 40 seconds
later. The military said an additional 10
minutes were recorded but didn't release the
additional footage.

Note that reporters and witnesses claim the crowd was struck AFTER the truck was already hit. As it stands, this refutes nothing.
