Israeli Soldier Kidnapped By Hamas Killed In Airstrike
Source: ThaiIndian News

(Xinhua) The Islamic Hamas movement’s armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, Monday claimed that an Israeli soldier kidnapped by its fighters was killed in an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza Strip. In a statement sent to media through e-mail, the group said four of its fighters who succeeded in kidnapping the Israeli soldier were also killed in the attack.

“As the group was about to leave the area and take the kidnapped Israeli soldier, an Israeli warplane fired a rocket at the group and killed the soldier, and the fighters,” the statement said.

“This time we failed to kidnap an Israeli soldier, but we are still planning to kidnap more in the future and we are certain that our attempts will succeed,” the al-Qassam Brigades said.

1. Sorry, I'll wait to have this confirmed
I don't understand why anyone would buy much of anything from either side without confirmation.

2. True.
Confirmation is needed, and it will either come, or it will be refuted. It is hard to know what is going on there, with the lack of journalists. We are largely subject to rumor and propaganda from both sides.

3. One of the brigades sites have claimed they have kidnapped a solidier
Though no names and particulars were given and I would think they would have turned it into a media show if true. This possibly could be related.

7. I thought they had been holding one for a couple of years
Maybe I'm misremembering; I thought Hamas captured a soldier back in 2006 right after Hezbollah captured some.

Of course, if he "accidentally" died any time between then and now, this is a convenient way to blame Israel for that.

I really wish there were somebody in that piece of land whose statements I could trust.

4. "We are still planning to kidnap more in the future"
I'm glad everyone is using the same set of rules.

Or should I say, only one side is being held responsible for abiding by the rules...

8. How many Palestinians has Israel kidnapped?
In the past two weeks alone, not to mention the last few years?

Sometimes being an invading soldier has its drawbacks.

5. Very sad, if true
But I always thought that Shalit was dead anyway.

If he is dead, from the airstrikes, I am sure Hamas will use video or photographs,a s they have done through this war.

If they don't show any, there is no evidence that he wasn't already dead.

6. I don't think the reference was to Shalit
As mentioned, there was some noise that another soldier was captured yesterday.
