13/01/2009 A Jordanian soldier opened fire at an Israeli Border Guard patrol Tuesday morning near the Arava border crossing north of Eilat.
The incident occurred when the Israeli officers spotted a Jordanian soldier descending from a watchtower and holding a gun in his hand. The soldier started shooting at the occupation force, which responded with fire.
However, the Jordanian authorities denied that the soldier opened fire at the Israeli policemen.
Tuesday's incident is the third to be recorded on occupied Palestine's borders in recent days.
On Sunday, a Syrian man, believed to be a civilian operating on his own, fired two gunshots on Israeli settlers and soldiers making repairs on the Palestinian side of the border fence in the north.
Last Thursday a Katyusha barrage was fired at Nahariya, injuring two settlers and causing five others to suffer shock.

"Troops were fired upon from the Jordanian side of the border. It was unclear who the gunmen were," the spokeswoman said about the incident, which came 18 days into Israel's Gaza offensive.
The troops, who were stationed at the Arava border crossing with Jordan in southern Israel, returned fire, the spokeswoman said.

‘No Israel border shooting’AMMAN (JT) - The Jordan Armed Forces on Tuesday rejected as baseless Israeli army claims that shots were fired from the Jordanian side on an Israeli army patrol.
An army source said in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that claims of such reports are unfounded.
"No firing took place from Jordanian territory in the direction of an Israeli patrol and the reported information is totally unfounded," the official told Agence France-Presse, asking not to be named.
Earlier, an official said Amman was not aware of the incident and questioned the Israeli version of events.
"Sometimes hunters open fire in this area - without it becoming a military incident," the government official told AFP.
