Israel Broke "Ceasefire" Hours After it Went Into Effect
Hours after the ceasefire was said to have come into effect Jan. 18, Israeli warplanes flew extremely low over areas of Gaza. Drones capable both of photographing and of dropping targeted missiles continued to circle overhead. At 8.30 am Jan. 18, one of these drones dropped two missiles in the Amal area east of Beit Hanoun, killing 11-year-old Angham Ra'fat al-Masri and injuring her mother.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) reports further violations of the ceasefire, including the killing of Maher abu Rjaila, 23, shot in the chest by Israeli troops at 10.40 am Jan. 18 as he walked on his land east of Khan Younis city.

1. What is the explanation from the Israeli side?
I don't see any in this article.

2. It's just understood that 'Gazan fisherman' can only fish when&where they are told
they can fish by the Israelis and Gazans mustn't get too close to the electric border fence with look-out towers for the Israelis to decide if someone 'is too close' to it. Ya know? Get too close to where the Israelis draw the line, and BAM...

3. Of course there is no Israeli explanation
We don't want to confuse our hyperactive puppy with facts, now, do we? A discombobulated puppy is not to be wished for.

However, there is of course an entirely rational explanation for Israel's actions. The Israelis of course did NOT break the ceasefire. As usual it was our friends the Hamas.

See here: Jan 18

8:39 AM So this is a unilateral ceasefire. Gunfire from Gaza at IDF positions, IDF tank responds with a shell and automatic gunfire (Channel 10, minutes ago). Our IDF troops are now sitting ducks in Gaza, and can only respond to attacks.

And further up that same thread (latest events are nearest the top}

12:02 PM Rockets in Kiryat Melachi. Again it fell in a some poor chicken coop.

1:59 PM YNET reports that 2 additional rockets fell in the Western Negev region. That makes 12 rockets shot at Israel so far, since Israel's unilateral cease-fire.

1:55 PM IAF gets high marks -- Hamas hotbed, radical Islamic University in Gaza heavily damaged. Photo gallery here.

1:49 PM 103FM Israeli Radio reports that IDF soldiers left messages in Hebrew in Gaza City on the walls of buildings: "Gilad, We were here. "

1:41 PM Reports that IDF tanks returned fire in the direction of the rocket launches at Israel earlier today.

12:59 PM No reports of injuries or damage in rocket attack on Ashkelon minutes ago. (You can ignore the Air Raid sirens, there's a ceasefire...)

12:56 PM Air Raid Sirens in Ashkelon.

12:46 PM Mortar rockets fired from Gaza at IDF Erez checkpoint. (Channel B Israeli Radio)

12:23 PM During the rocket attack on Kiryat Melachi about 40 minutes ago, a rocekt was also launched and landed in the Kiryat Gat area.

6. I'm distraught?
LOL! I couldn't be happier :-). You're the one who gets discombobulated by facts. That website that you find so revolting is run by an Israeli medic and first-aider. It is a whole lot more reliable than the stupid sources you find your "stories" myths. At least it gives a first-hand list of rocket launches on Israel.

Or perhaps you don't believe that list? Perhaps you should ask Pelsar who actually lives in Israel and hears the news on a regular basis with the constant announcements that "southern residents should enter their shelters". Or perhaps you can take it from me, since I also live in Israel.

Nah. Thought not. You mustn't be discombobulated.

every dead Palestinian child is one less future terrorist if a boy and well if it's a girl who knows how much it helps that demographic problem that is the common Israeli stance isn't it the only good Gazan is a dead one?

12. How dare you put thoughts into my head
that I have never once felt or expressed? Have I ever said that the only good Gazan/Arab/Palestinian is a dead one?

You disgust me.

All this because I bring a list of rocket attacks carried out by Hamas after the ceasefire went into effect. How you get from there to accusing me of wishing Gazan children dead is simply beyond belief.

sorry if I offended however you have done nothing but defend your countries action since this latest episode began and BTW the incidents you recount for the most part happened before Hamas called Israel's bluff and declared it's own cease fire

11. LOL keep trying buddy
the global support for Israel is shrinking and even in the US people are having second thoughts but just keep on the way you are its done so much good for Israel and I have to agree with a poster who said last night she hopes Bibi wins as do I because IMO the major difference between him and Livni is that at least Bibi is honest about his intentions

15. Well then sleep on this
the EU is seriously reconsidering its stance on Hamas including making recognition of Israel a precondition to any negotiation, and if the EU goes America may well follow especially considering the nose thumbing George Mitchell received from the Israeli government and the boasts that Israel will force Americas policy
