Israeli tourist stabbed by Libyan worker in Sinai
An Israeli tourist on Monday was stabbed by a Libyan worker at a resort in the Egyptian seaside town of Nuweiba.

The governor of Egypt's South Sinai province, Mohammed Hani Metwalli, said that the tourist, who was vacationing with his family, was returned to the Israeli city of Eilat for treatment.

The Libyan fled after Monday's attack, but left behind his passport.

Authorities are searching for him.

1. Anyone remember when a crazed Jordanian soldier killed Israeli children and Arafat ...
offered his condolence and the Israelis accepted his expressions of grief as sincere? I know that King Hussein made an expression of grief that the Israelis thoroughly embraced, but I also recall Arafat doing something similar.

Iirc this was at the height of hopefulness about the peace process, maybe early Barak administration.

You can't ascribe to all "Arabs" the crazed behavior of an assailant.

2.  Jordanian soldier kills 7 Israeli schoolgirls
NAHARAYIM, Jordan (CNN) -- A Jordanian soldier opened fire Thursday on Israeli junior high school girls visiting a border observation post. At least seven girls died, and six were injured, two critically.

Jordan's King Hussein expressed outrage at the killings, but defended his earlier warning that Israel's hard-line policies could cause an outbreak of violence. He cut short a visit to Spain to return to Jordan.

Witnesses said a bus dropped off about 40 girls at the observation post on the Jordan River island of Naharayim -- known as the "Island of Peace'' -- on the Israeli-Jordanian border.

While the girls admired the view, there was a hail of automatic gunfire as the soldier, Lance Cpl. Ahmed Yousef Mustafa, chased the terrified seventh- and eighth-graders down a hill. He had changed ammunition clips before he was overpowered by other Jordanian soldiers, authorities said.

I think this is the incident you are talking about.

4. An attack on an Israeli tourist in Egypt could yeild numerous consequences
Stricter security at tourist sites and increased tension between Israel and Egypt for instance. Also it seems that there have been numerous acts of random violence against civilians in the region of late. A disturbing trend to say the least.

5. Yeah, coz it's not like tourists anywhere aren't soft targets...it's just Israelis....
Sorry, but I find this attempt to turn a rather vague report of a crime committed on a tourist into something big to be just a bit of an overreaction. Are you aware of the level of violence committed on tourists of all nationalities around the world? It's because they're vunherable, and in many cases aren't aware of the customs and dangers in the countries they're visiting. At one stage here, it was really dangerous to be a foreign backpacker, and if they were hitchhiking along the Hume Highway out of Sydney, they were dicing with death at the hands of a prolific serial killer. Many crimes against tourists are opportunistic, and carried out without any real focus on what the tourist's nationality is. My understanding is that when it comes to resorts in the Sinai, Israelis make up the bulk of the tourists there, so it stands to reason that crimes against tourists there are going to include Israelis...

6. Ok then ignore it
Plenty of folks post items that are not monumentally significant. If the incident is not of interest to you (or anyone) then you can disregard the post.

7. I didn't say anything about it being insignificant...
Lots of things get posted here that are insignificant and some of them interest me and some don't. But that wasn' what I was saying. I was commenting on yr attempt to turn this into some sort of thing linked to the I/P conflict or terrorism, and pointed out something that you constantly point out in other threads - that it happens elsewhere.

8. Well someone asked me my "motivation" in posting this
I am not trying to turn this into anything. I thought there could be possibly be some potential repercussion from this attack. It's also possible that there won't be any. Mostly I was just sharing the information about the attack for anyone who is interested.
