ZOA criticizes Paul Wolfowitz for supporting plan to push Israel back...
Any group that berates Paul Wolfowitz for not being far right enough, has to be way out in right field.

He Also Equated Israel & Terrorists

ZOA Criticizes Bush Aide For Supporting Plan To Push Israel Back To The 1967 Borders

NEW YORK- The Zionist Organization of America has criticized Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz for publicly praising a plan that would push Israel back to the indefensible pre-1967 borders and tear Jerusalem in half.

The Jerusalem Post reported (Oct. 31, 2003) that in an October 30 speech at Georgetown University, praised a plan being promoted by Israeli leftwing activists, known as the "Geneva Understandings," which requires Israel to return to the pre-1967 borders and would turn half of Jerusalem --including Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount-- into the capitol of a Palestinian Arab state. Wolfowitz said the points in the Geneva Plan "look very much like" the Bush administration's Road Map plan.

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (Oct. 31, 2003), Wolfowitz said the Geneva plan "is the plan that best reflects the road map." He also said President Bush "is ready to pressure Israel" on issues such as Jewish communities in Judea-Samaria-Gaza.

To make matters worse, Wolfowitz repeatedly seemed to equate Israel and Palestinian Arab terrorists, by implying that Israel's counter-terror actions were comparable to Palestinian Arab terrorist attacks. He said, according to the Post: "The bombings and the violent response to the bombings in the last several months have certainly been a big setback, and we've got to get it back on track."

1. We should hire these guys to do anti-drug commercials.
They could do the "this is your brain on crack" parts.

3. There Would Seem, My Friend
To be a crack in the reputed "Zionist cabal" of the P.N.A.C. directing all U.S. policy from the shadows, if its reputed chief architect is in agreement with a plan restoring the '67 boundaries, instead of a "Greater Israel" all recent actions have allegedly been directed towards. Doubtless our "conspiracists" will manage to adjust their imprecations somehow....

4. Any Bush administration...
statement in support of a Palestinian state is likely rhetoric to please the masses.

If the Bush Administration was serious about creating a Palestinian state they'd back up their words with actions. They have yet to do so.

The myth of the "Zionist" cabal of the PNAC seems worthless to me as well, though for other reasons, most notably the lack of real evidence to support such an accusation. Israel is supported because it is benefitial to the national and international plans those people have in mind.

5. If They Feel That Will Please the Masses, Sir
That is a good omen, surely?

9. US foreign policy is not, and has not for a long time...
been dictated by the masses.

It is one of the easiest things to spin believably. People tend to believe what they want to believe, and one thing people tend to want to believe is that their nation is a glorious force for freedom and righteousness throughout the world.

That Is True, My Friend
Foreign policy has never been so directed, and the mass of people would generally not have it any other way, as they do not feel particularly competent in such questions.

Nonetheless, policy must be popular, and it is not easy to keep the actually product greatly different from the brochure description for any length of time.

6. PNAC is an American imperialism cabal, not a Jewish one
Wolfowitz was booed at the AIPAC march on Washington back during the summer of 2002 when he dared suggest that Palestinians were human beings too who were suffering a lot.

I watched Wolfowitz speech at Georgetown University a couple of days ago. I think that he is a very complex man, not transparent like his boss Rumsfeld.

7. It wasn't an AIPAC march...
I know a number of pro-Israel liberals and leftists who went, many of which opposed the Iraq war.

8. Forgive Me, My Friend
The over-weighting of that document has been a particular hobby-horse of mine. There was a time when it was not uncommon here for it to be described as proof of "undue Jewish influence" in the United States. You may not have been down here then, but you ought to be able to imagine my reaction....

10. Yeah, I can imagine your reaction
and I would have joined you in your denunciation of such characterization of PNAC.

BTW, nice to meet you in the trenches again.

12. A public one too.
I was thinking Mr. Wolfowitz has his tit in a wringer in Iraq,
and is looking for ways to lessen the pain, and this seems one
idea he finds congenial. But it's all speculation, eh? And
one might argue that its a bit late, this sort of effort might
have served us well in Iraq carried out before the invasion.

13. Indeed, Sir
Those who urged the line "the road to Jerusalem runs threough Baghdad" had it, as usual, one hundred eighty degrees from correct: the road to Baghdad ran through Jerusalem, and the liquidation of the conflict between Israel and Arab Palestine is an essential step to breaking the power of Islamic fundamentalist radicals. It ought to have been done, using U.S. financial leverage, immediately after the war in Afghanistan.
