Take the free out of speech
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 05:36 PM by sushi
"Jews are the new Nazis" reads the perfectly stencilled graffiti appearing on walls across Sydney in recent months.

The response of Colin Rubinstein, of the Australia Israel and Jewish Affairs Council, is surprisingly mild, "That's rather worrying, isn't it."
The selection of Ashrawi changed that when representatives of the Jewish community declared her unworthy.

Walter Secord, a spokesman for Carr, is more specific. "The international petition against awarding the peace prize originated in Jerusalem. But the second signature on it is from Dr Colin Rubinstein, of Melbourne."

Tanya Pilbersek, a federal Labor backbencher, "...But I have found, to my dismay, that anyone who criticizes Israel is labelled either anti-Semitic or an apologist for suicide bombers."

1. The irony is

That while any thinking person knows that the US-funded atrocities committed by sharon regime gunmen in the glorified military base that many people who live there were really hoping for a nice little Middle Eastern country, the policy of those who benefit from the conflict of shrieking "anti-Semite" at anyone who expresses opposition to the Policy of Starvation or the Torture Lottery does nothing but feed the heads of the ignorant and uninformed that war crimes and child torture is somehow associated with Jews.

And the US media, as I said in another post, is one of the worst offenders.

Israelis, even American Jews, are invariably portrayed on the CrusadeNets as wild-eyed extremists.

When do they ever have Uri Avnery on CNN? When have you ever seen them go to the trailer park and ask the Ethiopian Jews what they think about peace?

When sharon's US-funded death squads go into one of the most crowded residential areas on earth and shoot heavy weaponry into the little houses, does MSNBC have someone from B't Salem on?

No, they have some shrieking old fart with a Russian accent who thinks Ovadia Yusuf is an appeaser.

That's it for the "Israeli point of view."

Today, 100, 000 people in a country with a population of 6 million marched for peace, to end the occupation.

Did I miss the live continuous intensive coverage of that?

2. What?
100.000 people marched and I even didn't see a notice in any of the news?!? This is a disgrace. Ductape thanks for your info. This would have gone by me if it weren't for the well informed ;-)

3. Carrying "Sharon go home" and "End the Occupation" banners link inside
A rally in memory of Yitzhak Rabin eight years after his murder turned into the largest leftwing demonstration since Ariel Sharon came to power as more than 100,000 people at the weekend gathered under banners denouncing occupation and demanding peace.
Although the organisers had said that Saturday night's memorial was intended to be non-partisan, many of those who descended on the Tel Aviv square where the former prime minister was assassinated carried banners demanding: "Leave the territories - save the country", and "Sharon go home".

5. Thanks for the link
I missed that too. I knew that there must be many in Israel who disagree with their PM. I also didn't know until today that the security wall involves the annexation of tens of thousands of hectares of Palestinian land.

6. I have read a lot of
articles by Uri Avnery, but I've never seen him on TV. I think he deserves a peace prize!

7. He deserves to be a saint. The Catholics should get more inclusive

And PM of Israel, too, if that is not too discourteous a thing to suggest for someone right after suggesting them for sainthood ;)

8. I agree
It would be a nice change for Israel to get a PM that the neighbors can only like. Yes, that would be good, strength, which they already have, and a likeable PM.
