62 % of Palestinians support suicide attacks–Poll;Khaled Abu Toameh
A majority of Palestinians continues to support suicide attacks against Israeli civilians, according to a new public opinion poll published on Thursday by the Jerusalem Media and Communication Center (JMCC). The poll found that 61.8 percent of Palestinians supported suicide attacks, while 34.9% are opposed to this form of terrorism.

<snip>

In regard to the intifada, 76.8% supported its continuation, with only 21.7% saying that they want to see an end to the violence.

The poll showed that Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat continues to enjoy Palestinian support, with 59.8% saying they would expect him to be re-elected if free and democratic elections were held today, as opposed to 30.8% that did not expect Arafat to win.

2. Indeed, My Friend
Most polling that attempts to genuinely assay public conviction among the people of Arab Palestine has consistently shown, as well, that a similar proportion of people support a negotiated peace. In fact, the indicated support for both continued violence and negotiation is such that between a quarter and two-fifths of the people must have indicated support for both courses. Far from being contradictory, what such data shows is that people want the damned thing to end, and will support whatever bids fair to achieve that. Perhaps violence might; perhaps talking might: whatever might work.

3. Peace in the Middle East ...
will always be a generation away. Until children are NOT raised to hate the other side (to pass on to their children), there is no way for peace to work. It is truly a sad situation.

6. You're right
Too bad many on both sides are too blinded by an "US vs. THEM" mentality to realize that. There is no good side in this conflict.

7. Two things that I love about the Jerusalem Post.
First, it's so unbiased. It never says what Palestinians say without quoting them. Oh wait, they just did! They never take anything out of context. Yeah right.

"In regard to the intifada, 76.8% supported its continuation, with only 21.7% saying that they want to see an end to the violence."

What the Palestinians probably said was that they didn't want to see an end to the violence as long as occupation or the existence of Israel continued (because they might see the existence of Israel as the root of why they are being occupied). Why would the Palestinians want to keep living a life where their houses are being bulldozed down and where they are constantly being killed by IDF? I believe that was taken out of context.

The second thing that I love so much about the Jerusalem Post is that one can't read it without registering.
