11-year-old Israeli girl shot in West Bank terror attack
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/A/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1059446345549

An 11-year-old Israeli girl was shot inside a car as she was traveling with her parents in the West Bank last night, a military source told The Jerusalem Post .

"The terror attack took place near the Jewish settlement of Itzhar, west of Nablus at 1:30 a.m.," the source said. "She was lightly wounded in her legs and the IDF evacuated her by helicopter to Belinson hospital in Petah Tikva where she is now receiving medical treatment."

There were four other passengers, including children, in the car who escaped injury, the source said. The car was damaged with numerous bullet holes penetrating its side.

The spokesperson stated that a ban was now in effect preventing Israelis to travel in areas which are governed by the PA. "We now have an increased number of threats against civilians in the West Bank, where Palestinians terrorists are prepared to use several tactics, such as roadside bombs, automatic gunfire and kidnappings against Israeli civilians."

wake me when this charade is over.

1. here's a pointless exercise in linguistic gymnastics from me
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 02:08 PM by Aidoneus
a 4yr old Palestinian kid was shot the other day. Did the JPost call that a "terror attack" too?

4. Purely defensive in nature, unfortunate, but done only
with the best intentions and, of course, no terror was
involved.

The terrorists here don't seem to be very good with their
weapons, praise be. Let's hope the little girl recovers
fully.

6. Both incidents...
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 04:05 PM by Darranar
could well have been done on purpose. I assume that you agree with me here. (Personally, I believe that it is far more likely taht the IDF soldier shot the boy by accident then the gunman here shot the girl by accident, but it seems to me taht both were likely acts of terror commited on purpose.)

The death and wounding of innocents is the worst tragedy of this war, as it is of every war. For their sake, I hope for peace, however pessimistic I might otherwise be.

9. Yes, not defending either attack.
I would gladly give up the Jewish state and the Palestinian
state both for the lives of either child, since I believe
the life of either child is worth far more than either state.

10. I disagree...

BOTH states are needed. Israel is needed as a refuge for Jews from anti-semitism-the single country in the world where Jews are the majority. The Palestinian state is needed as well-it provides a refuge as well, from brutal Arab regimes that refuse to give them equal rights in order to use them against Israel.

Both states are essential to peace. The creation of both states will save a large number of children.

There was footage of the other incident.

Sounds suspiciously manufactured to me.

3. Barbarism begets Barbarism
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 02:19 PM by newyorican
War is hell. An eye for an eye has left 2 families burying their children within a matter of days. And this is a relatively "quiet" period.

The response also seems kinda stupid. Gunmen shooting up cars in an area controlled by the PA is the problem. Not the cars going through them. The only sense this makes is if the ban on cars is followed by securing the area and then re-opening it to traffic.

I don't think the issue of the settlements is going to be resolved by shooting at cars.

Hope you packed a lunch because you're in for a looong nap.

On Edit: Oops, young girl is still alive. Hope it stays that way.

7. "Barbarism begets Barbarism"
Do not compare a deliberate murder to an incident under investigation. You say a long nap? Explain yourself.

8. "deliberate murder"
You said it, I didn't. I never called the death of the 4 year old Palestinian a "deliberate murder". I just called it Barbaric.

Since the only dead child is the Palestinian, I wonder if you know something we don't.

"You say a long nap? Explain yourself."

15. The article concerned a murdered Israeli girl
Soon a mishap involving a Palestinian boy was mentioned. The girl was murdered. The death of the boy is being investigated. This is not a circle of violence. They are different things.

But does everyone get their facts straight before posting?

If the girl is murdered, how is she alive?

Maybe it's a little :hangover:

"She was lightly wounded in her legs and the IDF evacuated her by helicopter to Belinson hospital in Petah Tikva where she is now receiving medical treatment."

There. Now you don't have to click on the link, even though one more paragraph and the whole article will be posted here, very short.

I thought someone above had lamented two families burying dead children. Thankfully, the girl is alive. However, the larger point is the same.

That hostilities from both sides should end. Not just the "terrorists."

Again, you equate two different actions. Terrorists kill. The IDF seeks justice. These are not simply equal acts of hostility.

21. The cirmcumstance of a death of anyone is that they are dead.
If they were killed by another that should be enough. Accidents or on purpose should be judged in a court. Unfortunately many cases involving Palestinian deaths are not decided that way.
