Tough U.S. Stand On Israel Wall

Personal note: He'll(Bush) renege on this toughness on the plainride home from London. Tony Blair is a pathetic dupe for Bush.

November 20, 2003

President George W. Bush toughened his stance toward Israel yesterday over the huge barrier it is building in the West Bank, as Palestinians met to discuss a truce that could help revive peace talks.

Meanwhile, violence flared at Israel's usually tranquil border with Jordan, where a Jordanian truck driver shot five Ecuadorean tourists before being killed. One tourist died of her wounds.

With momentum building toward reviving a U.S.-backed peace plan, Bush urged Israel not to undermine it.

"Israel should freeze settlement construction, dismantle unauthorized outposts, end the daily humiliation of the Palestinian people and not prejudice final negotiations with the placement of walls and fences," Bush said.

The president had called the barrier a "problem" before but took an unusually tough tone yesterday in London.

2. this is what you call "tough"?
If funding for the occupation, for the bulldozing of homes, and for the murders of Palestinian civilians is the "tough" stance then I can't imagine the lenient one.
