PA officials try to reinstate Israeli cement monopoly
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 09:25 AM by BlackFrancis
A few days ago the Egyptian
newspaper Al-Arabi published
an article saying that a
company owned by Jamil
Tarifi, the PA's minister for
civilian affairs, acted on
behalf of the PA and mediated
between Egyptian cement
companies and an Israeli
company owned by businessman Zvi Belski.

The report said the cement provided by the
Egyptian companies is used for building the
separation fence
and that Tarifi got a 25
percent reduction on its price for Belski.

The report alleges that Belski is involved with
the Israeli security services and that he met
senior officials in the Egyptian cement
companies in hotels in Cairo to persuade them
to sell the cement.

:wtf:

2. why in the hell does Tarifi still have a job?
He was investigated over and over again in the 90's for being a crook, but the Israeli's liked him so it was overlooked.

Aiding the wall goes beyond the usual corruption though, that's straight up treason.

4. That's the real point here
I'm not questioning Israel's need for a Wall, although putting it deep in the Palestinian Territories is questionable to say the least and the hardships it causes Palestinians whose only crime is living in its shadow is unnecessary.

Nevertheless, the isn't a business opportunity; this is collaboration and war profiteering. Tarifi is despicable.

3. Walls are expensive and mainly built next to roads - over 90% is wire only
if the whole thing is built.

Not that wall/fence is a great symbol, and not that the way Sharon wants it laid out is not a land grab -

But "wall" is a hot button word..

I'm beginning to agree with you and others that see more than a land grab in Sharon's policy - and indeed a make life hard for Palestinians result - if not plan.

Still in January the Geneva plan is formally released - I thought it was to be this month - shows what I know! :-) -

and I do not think Sharon can stop Geneva from becoming the two state blueprint. Only Arafat can stop it - as he did Taba.

And I think Arafat will let his better side rule and let it happen.

Lord, hear our prayer. Amen

:-)
