Israel says three militants killed in Gaza chase

GAZA, Nov 26 (Reuters) - The Israeli military said its soldiers killed three Palestinian militants as they fled in a car after their attempt to carry out an attack in the Gaza Strip was thwarted late on Wednesday.

Relatives of the men killed gave a different version of events, saying the three cousins were shot as they drove to celebrations for the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday in the central Gaza Strip.

Israeli military officials said soldiers gave chase after seeing four militants -- at least two of them carrying guns -- approaching a road to a Jewish settlement where Palestinians had often planted bombs in the past.

"The chase took some time. At the end of the chase, which we had hoped would have ended with their surrender.... our forces opened fire at the car," a military official said.

This has nothing to do with your strange, unsupported assertions that any of us on the I/P board have equated "opposing Sharon rooting for terrorism. However it does have to do with the even stranger claim that the media unfairly portrayed a Palestinian as a "militant," when, in fact, that particular Palestinian was.
