Israel Withdraws Draft Resolution on Kids
Israel Withdraws Draft Resolution on Kids
BARBARA BORST
Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS - Israel's U.N. ambassador withdrew a draft resolution Wednesday that called for the protection of Israeli children from terrorism, angered by Egyptian-led effort to modify the proposal.

<snip>

The resolution was the first that Israel has introduced since 1976. Gillerman called it called it part of a new, "pro-active" approach by his government to the many resolutions supporting the Palestinians that the General Assembly passes each year.

<snip>

Amendments supported by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Senegal, South Africa and others to the Israeli draft would have replaced references to "Israeli children" with the words "children in the Middle East region." They also would have added passages condemning "foreign occupation, violations of international law," "military assaults, excessive use of force" and other objections that Palestinians often raise to Israeli conduct in the occupied territories.

2. Unfortunately... only Israelis standing in line with US vouchers...
Maybe we should all demand a refund :shrug:.

All those tax dollars for democracy gone to waste when one country can't even accept the principle that a child's blood is as red as the other child's regardless of ethnic/religious origin. What a shame.

3. Of course other amendments they wanted to add had nothing to do with it
"They also would have added passages condemning "foreign occupation, violations of international law," "military assaults, excessive use of force" and other objections that Palestinians often raise to Israeli conduct in the occupied territories."

For shame that they wanted to use the resolution to politicize the issue of children.

5. LOL...
For shame that they wanted to use the resolution to politicize the issue of children.

Now, what do you think the resolution's purpose in the first place was?

4. Only One country?
And which might that be?

There is a long history of attacks on Israeli children. The Palestinians have just awakened to the potential for the media on this issue.

6. Update
UNITED NATIONS, Nov 27 (Reuters) - After an uphill struggle, Israel withdrew a resolution on protecting Israeli children from terrorism, with its ambassador accusing the United Nations of hypocrisy, duplicity and double standards.
---

"Today we put the United Nations to the ultimate moral test," Gillerman told a news conference. "It failed this litmus test miserably. This demonstrated just how far the hypocrisy, duplicity and double standard policy of the General Assembly and its committees go."
---
At issue was Israel's first introduction of a resolution since 1976, a draft condemning Palestinian suicide bombings against Israeli children. It was meant to mirror a resolution adopted last week by the panel 88-4 with 58 abstentions demanding protection for Palestinian children.

Amendments proposed collectively by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan and others would have substituted "Middle East" for "Israeli" children and inserted language condemning "foreign occupation" and "violation of international law."
