Netanyahu cancels Bieber date over refusal to meet kids affected by Gaza rockets
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled his date with pop sensation Justin Bieber over the singer's refusal to meet with children living in communities affected by Gaza rocket fire, Channel Two reported on Tuesday.

The prime minister was scheduled to host the young singer at his office in Jerusalem on Wednesday evening, before Bieber's Thursday night concert.

Taking advantage of the PR opportunity presented by the meeting with Bieber, Netanyahu's advisers invited a group of children from communities near the Gaza border to attend.

The children had disembarked from a school bus just before it was hit by a Hamas rocket last Thursday, critically wounded a teen and moderately wounding the bus driver.

5. More news here -

snip - Sources in the singer's production team claimed that a meeting between Bieber and Netanyahu was never scheduled in the first place.

"It's a dirty trick, no meeting was planned. We received a request from the Prime Minister's Office to meet with Justin Bieber, and immediately afterwards the reports said that Bieber had asked to meet with the prime minister. The meeting was canceled today after we decided that there would be no political meetings."

Trying to wrap my head around why a seventeen year old Bieber would request meeting with Netanyahu.......as this is what the prime ministers office is TRYING to suggest. (after the PR stunt failed and Bieber would not accomodate Netanyahu's photo op)

7. just read this from Alan Colmes blog (Colmes is Jewish)
and he summarized the story without further comment. and i find it unbelievable that JUSTIN BIEBER of all people would be meeting with a foreign leader. The Canadian singer has never met Canada PM Harper and as far as US President Obama has only sung at the 2009 "Christmas in Washington" event with the president and first lady in the audience.

10. If true...
... I could understand Bieber's reluctance to make what could be seen as an appearance overtly supporting Israel's side in the conflict. Not that many 13 year old fans of his are likely to be very politically active or anything, but I don't see any advantage to Bieber in getting anywhere near this political shitstorm. What does he need pro-Palestinian groups boycotting his shows for?

This would have been like New Kids on the Block getting involved in the Kashmir conflict.

snip - "We never asked to meet with (Netanyahu) nor has anyone connected with us asked to meet him," Scooter Braun told the paper.

The Prime Minister's Office claims Bieber canceled his meeting with Netanyahu because of the participation of children from the Gaza vicinity.

However, officials from the various communities in the south denied the children had ever been invited to take part in such a meeting, further complicating the Prime Minister's Office in conflicting reports.

Perhaps the PM's office needs to clarify itself with a simple disclaimer.....
Statements coming out of this office may not be entirely factual.

Oh - and by the way....Bieber did donate 200 tickets to Sderot municipality - so kids COULD go to his show.
