Second Temple period artifacts found

Artifacts dating back 2,000 years have been uncovered just outside the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, the Antiquities Authority announced Tuesday.

They were discovered during ongoing excavations at the Givati parking lot near the Dung Gate, and date back to the Second Temple and Hasmonean periods.

They include the remains of a mikva, various bronze and metallic utensils and coins, candles, and a stone oil-storage vessel decorated with shofarot.

He noted that during the time of the Second Temple, the area was within the city walls.
