The president of a Jewish student organization at the University of Richmond was fired after she e-mailed the Israeli Embassy in Washington asking it to stop sending her "email after email about radical zionist propaganda."

A spokeswoman who oversees the student organization, Hillel, said the tone of the comments was irresponsible, disrespectful and inappropriate for a student leader of Hillel.

In her message to the embassy, Ms. Redford said, in part:

"I don't know if you realize that Hillel's mission statement is based on fostering religious life on college campuses and not organizing marches, protests, or listening to speakers who encourage us to hate our Palestinian neighbors in Israel.

"Sorry if this sounds a little harsh, but I'm personally tired of our actual religion . . . getting lost under the sea of war and conflict, which is not what the religion is supposed to be about."
