Two Israeli Soldiers Killed in Gaza Blast-Militants
GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian militants blew up two Israeli
soldiers in an armored jeep in southern Gaza on Friday,
witnesses said, in the third deadly ambush this week against
the Middle East's mightiest army.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, part of Palestinian President
Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, said they destroyed an
armored jeep in the Rafah refugee camp while soldiers were
demolishing homes to widen a nearby corridor on the
Gaza-Egypt border.

The attack occurred not far from the spot where militants
blew up a troop carrier on Wednesday, killing five Israelis,
and while soldiers were still scouring the sandy soil for
remains of their dead comrades.

1. Months go by, where few or no Israeli soldiers are killed
then in a week 13 or 14 of them are killed by virtually the same method. Keeping my tinfoil hat in the drawer (there's enough of that going on just now), something odd seems to be going on.

Have the Palestinian militants suddenly got their hands on some "good stuff"?

2. These episodes of more "competent" actions from the
Palestinian side crop up from time to time. Those
occurring in the last week can be said to stand out.
The one comparable incident I can think of occurred
in the attack on Jenin, and it was quite a different
thing in it's particulars.

The degree of control that is maintained of arms used
by the Palestinian resistance must be good for the simple
reason that the Israelis seem to use helicopters with more
or less impunity. Although I see occasional mention of
ATW and SAMs, they are either reportorial misunderstandings
or must be inferior quality items.
