Israel's population growth slowing down
Some interesting bits, note last paragraph.

he growth rate of Israel's population
has slowed in recent years, according to
figures published yesterday by the
Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). In
2000 the growth rate was 2.6 percent, in
2001 it was 2.2 percent, and in 2002, it
was 1.9 percent.

The slowdown has been attributed to
the number of immigrants arriving in
the country, which has declined by
10,000 a year. In 2003, only 26,100
people immigrated to Israel.

---

The Jewish population of the West
Bank and Gaza grew by 5.3 percent last
year, despite the security situation, and
now numbers 231,800.

---

In urban Arab communities, the growth
rate has slowed as women are having
fewer children.
