Report: Israel's 'first strike' plan against Iran ready
By DOUGLAS DAVIS

London

Israel has completed military rehearsals for a pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear power facility at Bushehr, Israeli officials told the London-based Sunday Times.

Such a strike is likely if Russia supplies Iran with fuel rods for enriching uranium. The rods, currently stored at a Russian port, are expected to be delivered late next year after a dispute over financial terms is resolved.

An Israeli defense source in Tel Aviv, who confirmed that the military rehearsals had taken place, told the paper: "Israel will on no account permit Iranian reactors - especially the one being built in Bushehr with Russian help - to go critical."

The source was also quoted as saying that any strike on the Gulf coast facility at Bushehr would probably be carried out by long-range F-15I jets, overflying Turkey, with simultaneous operations by commandos on the ground.

Some crazy shit brewing in the Middle East. This will probably be much worse than Israel's attack on Osirak Iraq in 1981. The middle east is like a truck full of explosives and this is like a lit flare. This time, the whole region will erupt in flames and take us down with it.

any thoughts?

6. like the blather in 1981?
When Israel sent F-15s and commandos into Iraq? The Osirak attack was very real.

7. Iraq isn't Iran
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 07:18 PM by Shane_Fergessen
Iran has a quite sophisticated system of anti-aircraft defenses and the benefit of a Russian patron with access to extremely good intelligence regarding Israeli intentions.

If Israel decided to attack Iran, Russia would know it in about ten seconds and Tehran would know in twenty.

This is the entire reason Iran's nuclear projects exist undisturbed and will continue to exist. Ironically had the U.S. not sank every last bit of military might into Iraq they could possibly been cowed into some different course of action (one that doesn't command the sort of wide and deep political support that Iranian nuclear power holds in Iranian opinion and one at odd's with the usual "Freedom for Iran!" crowd would find difficult to disuade if the place was actually politically free) but it's too late.

9. It is true that the US' present exposure in Iraq could act
as a restraint on the desire to teach Iran a lesson, as
Iran is in a good position to teach the US a lesson in Iraq.
There was a discussion about this not long ago somewheres
around here.
