Roger Waters tells Israel to "Tear down The Wall!!"
Pink Floyd founder: Tear down the wall!
Roger Waters joins effort to demolish Israel barrier
By Joe Kovacs

Tear down the wall!

That was the lyrical message in 1979 from British rock band Pink Floyd, and it's now the mantra of the group's co-founder Roger Waters, who is looking to demolish the concrete barrier in Israel.

Waters, who has since left the band, is launching "the Writings on the Wall" campaign with his famous line "we don't need no thought control" scribbled under his signature on an eight-foot replica of the fence.

"The poverty inflicted by the wall has been devastating for Palestinians," said Waters. "It has kept children from their schools, the sick from proper medical care and continues to destroy the Palestinian economy."

Waters is the first of a handful of British celebrities to sign up for the campaign, which is sponsored by the London-based anti-poverty group War on Want.

For those outside Great Britain, a virtual wall will soon be active online where the public can "paint" their own messages.

2. No, you're confusing him with those David Gilmour solo albums
which misused the name "Pink Floyd"

14. Of course she has. It's just everybody and his uncle has an opinion
about a conflict that wouldn't rate 2 on a scale of 1-100 in importance if they actually cared about the whole world instead of just I/P.

17. on YOUR scale
on YOUR scale it may rate a 2, but that would be no surprise to most here I would wager...

To me on the other hand, the occupation and Israel's denial of the Palestinian's rights is a pretty big deal to me. Especially since the UN and the ICJ have condemned their actions, and especially since the US continues to give them a lot more money than they deserve.

22. Water's opinion is no less valid than
anyone that has posted in this forum. And if memory serves me, that's the UN, the EU, Red Cross, ICJ, Doctors without Borders, Amnesty International, Roger Waters and in fact, just about *anyone* who isn't lock-step with Israel that are 'nutting but shit'.

But then again, that's just *your* opinion.

Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 06:35 PM by Classical_Liberal
Then there wouldn't be so many terrorist who want to kill. There are white people who like the blow up federal buildings. Have you figured out a way to fence them as a group out? Oh I forgot all white people can vote in this country.

21. If the wall is to fence the "terrorists" out,
why are more Israeli settlers moving on to the Palestinian side of
the wall?

Won't they be in danger from those dreadful terrorist suicide
bombers?

all the lyrics to The Pink Floyds albums after Syd Barrett( who wrote my nickname song Arnold Layne)left in 1968.If you listened to Dark Side of the Moon,Wish You Were Here,Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut you shouldn't be surprised by his left-wing political ideology. Several pro-Israel posters have been banned from DU.

Believe it or not, Israel is NOT untouchable here. Neither side is.

23. I hope if
they do tear down that wall Roger can talk Dave,Nick and Rick into reuniting Pink Floyd to perform The Wall. Just like Roger did with various musicians in 1990 for The Wall Live in Berlin when the Berlin Wall was torn down. I doubt if that would happen considering Roger and David Gilmour can't get along. They havn't spoken to each other since the mid 1980's when they were sueing each other over the legal rights to who can use the name Pink Floyd which Gilmour finally won and Roger never has forgiven David as a result. Shine On  :hippie:

30. This is like referring to the Berlin Wall as the "Peace Fence"
As a matter of fact, Sharon's Wall would tower over the Berlin Wall were they placed side by side. Could you imagine the outcry in the West had the East Germans (DDR) built a wall like the one Sharon is building on Occupied Palestine?

What do these folks that adhere to the "DDR-right-or-wrong" have in common with "Israel-right-or-wrong," or for that matter with the "America-right-or-wrong"?

BTW, one good thing about Kerry being in the White House is that he will do SOMETHING about I/P instead of giving a free reign to Sharon to do as he pleases as Bush has.

36. was the Berlin Wall built...
in order to obstruct brainwashed tools of terrorist mafioso bosses, willing to become human bomb fodder by detonating themselves in crowds in order to kill and maim as many people as possible?...

didn't think so...

equating the two scenarios is propaganda...

31. It was Sharon who triggered the current intifada
with his provocative "visit" (with a large security entourage) to the Al-Haram al-Sharif. Sharon did this for the express purpose of derailing the Oslo Accords. He succeeded beyond his wildest expectations!

Blaming the Palestinians for the violence is like blaming the Muslims for retaliating for an American bombing of Mecca's Sacred Mosque.

That's rather off. It was Camp David which was already derailed by that time.

34. intifada
sharons visit to the Temple Mount was both within his rights and ok'd by no other than the leader of the intifada himself yasser arafat.

also the intifada began a couple of days before the now infamous visit. should he have used more wisdom and had a smaller security force, probably.
if he didnt go would there still have been an intifada? definately.

he had a security detail because just like in america, israel (and most countries) surround their leaders and candidates for top office with such details.

peace

35. 'triggered' - what a weasel word...

so Sharon 'triggered' an apparently unwillful violent reaction, that happened to be preplanned, well before in advance of, and, ignited only a full day after, his so-called 'provocative visit' to the Temple Mount...the man is omnipotent...

blaming Sharon for the stupidity of Arafat is, well, like blaming Sharon for the stupidity of Arafat...
