Ex-deputy Mossad director accuses IDF of losing its morality
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/461995.html

<snip>

"Former deputy Mossad director, Shmuel Toledano, launched a harsh verbal attack on Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon on Sunday, saying that the IDF under his leadership had lost its morality and military ethics.

The attack took place during a lecture Ya'alon gave at the Council for Peace and Security, a group of 1,000 top-level reserve generals, colonels, and Shin Bet and Mossad officials.

During the lecture, Toledano asked the participants: "How can you like the IDF the way it operates today?" He then turned to the Chief of Staff and said: "What do you intend to do in order to return our IDF and not your IDF, which is soulless and merciless. There is a feeling among the public that the IDF under your command has entirely lost the sacred value of military ethics following the death and destruction the IDF is spreading at checkpoints". Toledano left the hall following participants' protests and resigned from the council."

1. The IDF only reflects the morals of its leader
And if you're looking at the Likud and Ariel Sharon, they have none.

2. Moshe Ya'alon is a Hero!
That makes two in one day.
(Is sanity trying to creep back in?)

4. those "break their bones!" *Days Of High Morality* are so fleeting!
What is it that can be called 'lost' that was not actually there before? It is nice that there is a disagreement among some sections, but there are some strange definitions of past 'sacred ethics' implied.

5. It did jar a bit.
But then the whole "purity of arms" things jars.
Like "the sensitivity of numbness" or something.

But a more interesting question is what IS this half-wit
up to, why the attack on his successor? Is it blame shifting?
Is their trouble in River City? Why the need for distancing
himself from the current situation? But one can only note the
oddity and speculate, no additional facts to be had.
