Take action for justice!
Urge Senate Not to Endorse Israel's Illegal Wall
Take Action! http://capwiz.com/adc/utr/1/MKJJDUBFVG/EFFADUBFVZ/

September 3, 2004....Urge your Senators not to endorse the illegal wall Israel is building in the Palestinian West Bank. BACKGOUND: On July 9, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the wall Israel is building in the Palestinian West Bank is “contrary to international law” and that Israel must cease its construction, dismantle it, and pay reparations to those damaged by it. Members of Congress who support Israel’s military occupation responded by introducing legislation condemning the ICJ ruling and backing Israel’s illegal wall. The House quickly passed a resolution to this effect in July but a sizeable number of Members of Congress voted against it or abstained, partly as a result of your efforts. A similar resolution—Senate Resolution 408—was introduced in the Senate on July 20 but was not voted on before the Congressional recess in August. The Senate is likely to vote on it sometime after it reconvenes after Labor Day.

Educate your Senators about the importance of following a policy of human rights and international law toward Israel and Palestine can make a huge difference! Enter your zip code in the adjacent box to send your message to the Senate today! YOUR EFFORTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Before adjourning for August recess, the House passed a similar resolution. However 58 Members of Congress voted against it or abstained. For some of these Members of Congress this was the first time they voted against a resolution introduced by supporters of Israel’s military occupation. Several Congressional offices acknowledged that it was thanks to your phone calls that they voted no or abstained and some even encouraged us to organize more pressure on them so that they would feel empowered to vote against these types of resolutions in the future.

"Every time anyone says that Israel is our only friend in the Middle East, I can't help but think that before Israel, we had no enemies in the Middle East." : John Sheehan, S.J. (a Jesuit priest)
