PA sentences Gaza `collaborators' to die
A PA court sentenced a father and son to death yesterday for helping Israel carry out a failed assassination attempt against a Hamas leader, Palestinian officials said.

The Gaza criminal court earlier convicted Mohammed Abu Ganas, 53, and his son Rami, 22, of providing information to a foreign country and harming Palestinian interests.

The father and son were arrested in December. In April, the court said, the two were heard confessing to a journalist that they aided Israeli intelligence in setting up an attempt on the life of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi on June 10, 2003. That attempt failed, but Rantisi was killed in another Israeli air strike on April 17 this year.

The sentence must be confirmed by the president of the Palestinian Authority before it can be carried out. Before his death, Yasser Arafat approved several death sentences and commuted others.

1. Since Hamas leaders tend to blow up suddenly...
vice being captured and put on trial...

Collaboration is always a death penalty offense. I'm somewhat surprised they went through all the trouble of a trial, usually any trials occur after the war is over.

2. what would be your suggestion
for an Israeli that helped Hamas assasinate an Israeli politician?

What did you suggest for Vanunu again, who didn't "collaborate" with anyone and put NO Israeli lives in danger (surely telling people you DO have weapons causes them to think twice about attacking rather than the pointless "ambiguous" policy)

3. Well in civilized places....
...there is no death penalty (even though it exists on the books) Besides Eichman, a civilized country does not put anyone to death...Unciviized places however do,and often without trials....
