'I Was Right To Shoot
13-Yr-Old Child'
Radio Exchange Contradicts Army Version Of Gaza Killing
By Chris McGreal in Jerusalem
The Guardian - UK
12-12-4

An Israeli army officer who repeatedly shot a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza dismissed a warning from another soldier that she was a child by saying he would have killed her even if she was three years old.

The officer, identified by the army only as Captain R, was charged this week with illegal use of his weapon, conduct unbecoming an officer and other relatively minor infractions after emptying all 10 bullets from his gun's magazine into Iman al-Hams when she walked into a "security area" on the edge of Rafah refugee camp last month.

A tape recording of radio exchanges between soldiers involved in the incident, played on Israeli television, contradicts the army's account of the events and appears to show that the captain shot the girl in cold blood.

7. If its true, then he needs to go to jail....
but i've often noticed ,especially when it comes i/p,

sometimes the truth is not always what it seems and sometimes

the truth takes a while.

Hope that helps, Clint.

9. his career is finished
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 04:33 PM by pelsar
the real punishment for him is him having his career finished, and in the druz community he now also has an "honor problem".......it goes far deeper than a mear court martial

and just for the record two days later, at a different location, another 13 yr old, ignoring loudspeaker warnings, and warning shots (the commander ordered his soldier not to shoot her) and when she arrived at the gate, she said she had bomb in her bag......

though the commander cocked his gun, looked at her, and decided she was lying. Ordered her to open her bags and there were just school books.

was he right or wrong to trust his instincts (he was born in sweden, perhaps that had an influence on him.....), what if she really did have a bomb?

17. how do you know what his culture is
because someone currently lives in the US does not give you any background into their ethnicity, religion, ethnic background, beliefs or understanding.

For all you know this poster may have spent his entire life within Druze culture, stop pretending to be the expert on ALL cultures living within Israel Palestine, it's patronising and is making your arguments even weaker

13. Maybe we could hire him for Homeland Security....
This way he doesn't have to lose his career.

Actually I think NJ is looking for a Homeland Security czar... The last Israeli National that was appointed to that post didn't work out so well.... ??? !!!

If the commander had been born in America, he would have shot first and maybe, perhaps, ask questions afterwards. Gun violence is a key component of American culture.

15. Rense is a load of crap
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 05:17 PM by Djinn
and as I question people's use of shite like jewishworldreview and frontpagemag I'll do the same here.

This article from the Guardian could easilly have been posted instead.

But the tape recording of the radio conversation between soldiers at the scene reveals that, from the beginning, she was identified as a child and at no point was a bomb spoken about nor was she described as a threat. Iman was also at least 100 yards from any soldier.

The tape also reveals that the soldiers said Iman was headed eastwards, away from the army post and back into the refugee camp, when she was shot.

Watchtower
'It's a little girl. She's running defensively eastward'

Operations room
'Are we talking about a girl under the age of 10?'

Watchtower
'A girl of about 10, she's behind the embankment, scared to death'

Captain R (after killing the girl)
'Anything moving in the zone, even a three-year-old, needs to be killed'

http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,1358173,00.html

No excuse at all - and loosing his career is hardly a just punishment.
