Why are there sour feelings towards Israel?
I have been DU member for only a few months, but have seen various posts with negative connotations towards Israel...

Some of the reasons I have seen are:

- Israeli government, and policies
- Palestinian conflict
- Israel has alot of control over US policies

What I am curious is why the negative feelings? And does it cross over towards Israeli citizens, and Jews abroad too?

5. Sabra means Israeli native.
So I know what that means (cuz I have a sabra cousin)

Really, my feelings towards Israel is really towards the government. The Likudniks are fucking like the Bush government right now, and I disagree with every single policies that they have in place. My dad, however, likes how the government is handling it so I've drawn the line regarding Israel.

Sharon was the person who was responsible for the intifidah, and will end when Sharon steps down (he's been stringing coalitions after coalitions to retain power, but even it's being strung together with silk lines). I can't wait for the day that Sharon is personally kicked out of Knesset. I'd like to see Labour/Shia Party in power and reverse everything that Sharon has done.

2. This will probably be moved to the IP forum
You'll find that most people here who oppose Israel oppose the nation and government, not the people.

Sharon is a madman, IMO. The policy against the Palestinians is the moral equivalent of Apartheid, IMO.

3. The Likud government is forcefully dispossessing and impoverishing
the people of Palestine.

but there is a whole forum for these debates.

4. I don't know what your member name means
but I opposed Israel's apartheid policies against the Palestinians and just like Christians did after they became the dominant group of the ancient Roman Empire, Israel is the new generation of persecutors.

I also oppose the melding of Israel's imperial ambitions with US foreign policy. The two should never be the same and any American who tries to do that is a traitor to the United States.

7. Maybe they made cooler weapons than we do...
On a less sarcastic note, they have a right-wing government just as nasty as Bush's and Hitler's.

8. the FACTS ON THE GROUND indicate that Sharon and his radical ACTIONS
has unfortunately only led to a terrible rise in suffering and deaths... kinda like the same reasons everyone is pissed at the US for, sadly.

you can keep abreast of his daily blunders and wacky spin to try and minimize the fallout right here on DU

I'm curious why, knowing the reasons you've already postulated, you wonder?

That said, I think most here understand that the majority of Israeli's probably are as disgusted with the actions of the RW government in your country as we are with ours. Since we live in a glass house here, I really can't be throwing stones at yours. Suffice to say, I hope we both sweep the crooks and wackos out of power who seem hellbent on destroying the ME and the world....

15. Locking per I/P guidelines
New posts must be based on a recent news or oped article.

But to answer your question which is sticky as the cactus (and why first generation Israeli's are or were called such) you are named for, there are users here who feel antipathy towards Israel's policies, both past and present, in dealing with the Palestinian people. They hold no ill-feelings towards either Israelis or towards Jews. There are also users here who feel antipathy towards the militant Palestinian and Arab national groups and their policies against Israeli's both past and present. Again, they hold no ill-feelings towards either Palestinians, Arabs or Muslims.

Unfortunately there are those who wish to use this situation to make attacks against Israelis and Jews or against Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims in particular. Most do this inadvertantly either from trusting bad information or from zealousness, but there are the occasional few who are definitely pursuing a very bigoted agenda. Should you encounter such a situation, please use DU's alert system so that the moderator's can handle this.
