Israeli Arabs call on gov't not to probe Zada's death
Israeli Arabs call on gov't not to probe Zada's death
August 6, 2005
YAAKOV KATZ AND JPOST STAFF

The monitoring committee of the Israeli Arab leadership called on the government Saturday to refrain from investigating the death of Eden Natan Zada, who was lynched by an angry mob after he murdered four Israeli Arabs in the northern town of Shfaram on Thursday.

MK Mohammed Barakeh warned on Saturday that protests could erupt if police probe Zada's lynching.

According to Barakeh, the crowd attacked Zada out of concern he would continue with his shooting rampage. He denied that Zada was beaten after being handcuffed by police.

However, Shfaram's security officer, Jamal Aliam, told Army Radio that Zada had been attacked by dozens after he had been handcuffed and subdued by police.

1. I am not surprised.
Rather than getting the whole story, they only want part of the story out. Nothing will justify what that terrorist did, but the entire situation needs to be examined. I applaud the Israeli government for its response to the situation and the victims and their families.

And, kudos to "Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur, head of the Islamic Movement's southern faction, responded to Hamas's Friday promise to avenge the Shfaram attack, calling on Hamas to "attend to its own business and allow Israeli Arabs to decide how to deal with Jewish terrorism.""

2. A member of the Kach movement?
A Jewish woman, in the area at the time, wrote me this:
"The Kach movement (a Jewish terrorist group that is
outlawed even in Israel, although the government
continues to fund their settlements in the West
Bank) opened fire on a busload of Palestinian
citizens of Israel in the Druze village of Shfaram
(inside Israel). He killed four, including the bus
driver, before being killed himself."

3. Ironically enough
as I recall, Barakeh opposed the shortning of the sentence of Yoram Shkolnik (he killed a bound Palestinian who had tried to stab two other settlers in 1993)

4. Killer's last moments

Arab photographer captures Shfaram terrorist bound by his hands, moments before angry mob kills him

<snip>

"Arab photographer Zaid Khanaifas captured Jewish terrorist Eden Natan Zada's last moments on camera, moments before the lynch, Ynet has learned.

Khanaifas, who works for the a-Sinara Arabic newspaper, photographed Zada with his hands bound on the bus in Shfaram, after he had killed four of its passengers.

The photographs were authenticated by policemen present at the scene of the attack."

<snip>

"The photo shows Zada with his upper body exposed, without his weapon, with his hands tied and covered in blood.

These new photos have raised frightening questions regarding Zada’s fate. Was he indeed bound by his hands and left for the angry mob by a police force too weak to control the crowds?"
